This role provides strategic and operational leadership in managing employee relations across a diverse employee population, including faculty and staff. The Director will lead efforts to ensure fair and consistent practices, oversee complex workplace investigations, and support leadership development through training and coaching on employment matters. Essential Functions Lead and provide a strategic framework for the District's employee relations function, with guidance on conflict resolution, performance management, policy interpretation, and disciplinary actions. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws (e.g., Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, Title IX). Provide vision, leadership, planning, and management for the development and facilitation of effective employee relations operations. Lead, develop, and evaluate employee relations staff. Oversee investigations into employee complaints and management concerns involving discrimination, harassment, misconduct, and policy violations; maintain neutrality and legal compliance. Oversee a centralized case management system for investigation matters. Advise supervisors and managers on complex employee issues with fairness and empathy. Collaborate with Legal Counsel to align ER strategies with institutional priorities and compliance. Manage resolution of escalated issues and oversee a centralized case management system for ER matters. Design and deliver training programs for leaders, supervisors, and HR professionals on conflict resolution, corrective action, performance management, and respectful workplace behavior. Monitor trends in ER issues and develop proactive strategies and programs with leadership. Research industry standards and best practices; prepare ad hoc reports for leadership. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution and six (6) years of work experience in human resources, including administration, analyses, and/or support of ER projects, programs, or initiatives. At least two (2) years of the required experience must be in a supervisory or management role. OR An equivalent combination of education and/or experience sufficient to perform the essential duties may be considered. Desired Qualifications Experience performing ER work within MCCCD. Experience performing ER in higher education. Experience using a case management system. Current possession of PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, or similar HR certification. Experience designing and delivering ER-related training for HR professionals and leaders. Experience conducting or overseeing complex, sensitive workplace investigations. Special Working Conditions Work is typically performed in an indoor office environment. Some work may involve outdoor environments with exposure to weather. Travel to various locations throughout the District may be required. The MCCCD operates 24/7; some non-standard hours may be required.
