Overview
Madison County is seeking a dedicated and forward-thinking Economic Development Director to guide our community’s economic growth and vitality. This leadership role is responsible for advancing policies and programs that promote job creation, strengthen our local business base, and attract new investment while preserving the unique character and values of our community. The Director reports directly to the County Administrator and serves as a key liaison between government, businesses, and residents.

Base pay range:

Primary Responsibilities
Develop, recommend, and implement strategic economic development plans in alignment with the goals set by the Board of Commissioners/City Council.
Lead business attraction, retention, and expansion initiatives, ensuring transparency and accountability in all activities.
Serve as the primary contact for developers, site selectors, and employers considering Madison County.
Coordinate with local, regional, and state partners on infrastructure, workforce development, and funding opportunities.
Manage incentive programs and evaluate their effectiveness in delivering public benefit.
Prepare and present reports, recommendations, and updates at public meetings.
Pursue grant funding and oversee compliance with applicable state and federal requirements.
Promote open communication and collaboration with residents, community organizations, and business leaders.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Economic Development, Public Administration, Planning, Business, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in local government, economic development, or community planning.
Knowledge of municipal government operations, public finance tools, and economic development best practices.
Proven ability to work effectively with elected officials, staff, and diverse stakeholders.
Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
Demonstrated record of integrity, transparency, and accountability in public service.
