Under supervision of the Lab Director participate in the setup and organization of educational labs for medical, pharmacy, and physician assistant students. Assist faculty and students during classes as needed. Set up labs prior to and tear down after for all lab courses. Instruct students in surgery and microscopy. Maintain and improve (collect) the Pathology Gross specimen collection and student slide set. Maintain and improve the Histology specimen cassettes and student slide sets. Maintain and improve student slide sets for Hematology and Neurology. Assist in the morgue. Responsible for calibration and maintenance of autoclaves for state certification. Must have competence in computer and audiovisual equipment. Minimum Qualifications
Theoretical knowledge of human and canine anatomy and physiology typically attained with a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with laboratory instruments/equipment operation. Skill to use scales and balances with accuracy. Ability to work with cadavers and live animals in a laboratory setting. Experience with autoclave and industrial cleaning appliance operation. Experience with autoclave certification requirements and standardized testing procedures. Demonstrated knowledge of preservation techniques. Demonstrated ability to monitor anesthesia levels, and cardiac output on large animals. Judgment to interact appropriately with faculty, other professionals, students, and co-workers, and flexibility to take on other duties and fill in as necessary. Demonstrated knowledge of microscopy. Demonstrated ability to maintain handwritten and computerized records. Demonstrated ability in sterile technique and universal precautions and to safely work with blood borne pathogens. Demonstrated ability to work from and adapt protocols to make solutions and stains. Experience with basic neurology and neurological staining techniques. Experience with histotechnology: fixation and staining techniques, and embedding. Experience with surgical instruments and equipment and their application during surgery. Experience with various culture media and their application in bacteriology. Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated skill in phlebotomy techniques with certification. Special Conditions
Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required. Must be willing to work with large animals in experimental circumstances and with human specimens and cadavers. Must be willing to work with hazardous materials. Required: Phlebotomy certification if performing phlebotomy duties. Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $60,301 - $97,008 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $28.88 - $46.46 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
