Endemic is a science-first, conservation-driven ecological consulting and restoration company. Founded in 2009 at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa, we have grown from a single ecologist to a team of 60+. Sixteen years later, we are returning to Fairview Park with the 15-acre Flower Field Habitat Restoration Project, a site rich in rare plants, endangered species (including the Crotch’s bumblebee and burrowing owl), and deep Native American cultural history. Our purpose is to heal California landscapes through Conservation at Scale, the Founder’s Second Curve, and Ecological Culture Building. We deliver regulatory compliance, restoration science, and measurable ecological outcomes under one roof. The Opportunity: This is not just a compliance role. As a Restoration Ecologist, you will connect science, compliance, clients, and crews to ensure projects achieve both ecological and cultural value. You will work closely with our Director of Habitat Restoration and Founder and CEO to help shape the next generation of restoration science in California. Why This Role Matters: Your work will directly determine the success of restoration projects. From designing plant palettes and invasive species strategies to mentoring crews and working with agencies, you will be part of restoring California’s landscapes. This is an opportunity to contribute to a legacy of ecological restoration. What You’ll Do: Develop and implement habitat restoration and mitigation plans in compliance with CEQA and NEPA. Design plant palettes, invasive species management strategies, and success criteria. Lead and mentor field crews to ensure restoration standards are met. Collect and analyze ecological monitoring data and prepare technical reports. Serve as a client-facing scientist and coordinate with regulatory agencies. Incorporate innovative research and development pilots such as climate-resilient seed mixes and new restoration methods. What We’re Looking For: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, or Botany required. Master’s degree in Restoration Ecology, Botany, or a related field preferred. Experience: Four to seven years of applied restoration ecology including CEQA and NEPA monitoring and field leadership. Skills: Strong plant identification, technical writing, and ability to translate science for clients and crews. Traits: Organized, detail-oriented, values-driven, and focused on conservation and growth. Preferred: SER Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner, QAL or QAC, or CNPS familiarity. Schedule & Pay: Full-time, hourly position. $70,000 to $95,000 annually DOE with higher pay for CEQA and NEPA and client-facing experience. Benefits include Health, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance, 40 hours of paid sick leave annually, and a 401(k) retirement plan with 4% company match. Why Join Endemic? Make a difference by restoring California’s landscapes through science and conservation. Contribute to thought leadership by publishing, presenting, and innovating. Advance along a clear path from Ecologist to Senior Ecologist to Leadership. Join a team that prioritizes conservation, integrity, and collaboration.
