Project Level Habitat Restoration Ecologist

to join our team. While much work focuses on Southern California, opportunities may extend throughout California, the Western region, and nationally. Travel to restoration sites is required. The ideal candidate will have experience with California ecosystems, restoration ecology, landscape architecture, botany, or related fields, and a thorough understanding of ecosystem functions such as hydrology, soils, and biological processes involved in restoring upland, aquatic, and riparian habitats. Knowledge of the restoration life cycle, including planning, permitting, installation, and monitoring, is essential. This role may include positions such as: Assistant Project Restoration Ecologist (up to 3 years of experience) Associate Project Restoration Ecologist (up to 5 years of experience) Project Restoration Ecologist (up to 7 years of experience) Application Process Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until a qualified pool is identified. Responsibilities Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including botanists, wildlife biologists, soil scientists, geomorphologists, landscape architects, hydrologists, engineers, cultural resource experts, and planners. Support proposals, cost estimates, and client engagement to grow our business. Engage with local and regional groups to stay informed on policies, best practices, and related services like sustainability and climate adaptation. Support habitat restoration projects through feasibility studies, design, construction oversight, maintenance, monitoring, reporting, and project management with senior staff support. Ensure team safety by developing safety plans and anticipating hazards. Demonstrate passion for restoration ecology, willingness to learn, and strong communication skills. Lead efforts in client support, proposals, and business development. Contribute to the development of SWCA's Restoration Practice Group. Qualifications At least 3 years of experience in environmental consulting or related fields focusing on habitat restoration. Bachelor's degree in restoration ecology, biology, botany, landscape architecture, environmental science, or related; master's preferred. Proven supervisory skills and strong organizational, communication, and analytical abilities. Knowledge of applicable regulations and permit processes. Experience with restoration techniques such as hydroseeding, seeding, container planting, and staking. Ability to identify and monitor non-native species and advise on management techniques. Knowledge of Southern California ecosystems and habitat restoration experience in the region. Experience designing and implementing project monitoring and data analysis. Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Experience with wildlife or botanical surveys and reporting is a plus.
