Under the supervision of the Chief Sonographer and Medical Director, this position is responsible for independently performing 2-dimensional, color Doppler, and Doppler echocardiograms. The position also assists in inventory of supplies and equipment maintenance, requiring a high level of knowledge to read and interpret test results, especially those that are abnormal or atypical. Principal Duties And Responsibilities Performs 2-dimensional, color Doppler, and Doppler echocardiograms, proficient and knowledgeable in non-imaging continuous Doppler. Interprets test results and notifies referring physician or house officer of a preliminary report. Assists in scheduling cardiac ultrasound procedures for inpatients and outpatients. Responsible for inventory of supplies in the Echo Lab. Responsible for daily cleaning of equipment with approved hospital disinfectant and following Infection Control guidelines. Maintains all echo equipment to solve minor operating problems. Reviews patient charts to obtain pertinent clinical history and performs cardiac examinations. Explains procedures to patients and positions them for cardiac ultrasound examinations. Performs portable studies, requiring mobilization of equipment. Records and reviews test results for accuracy and prepares test reports. Records, calculates, and plots known control values on technical instruments. Maintains testing rooms in clean and orderly condition. Keeps current with developments in technical instrumentation, trends, and techniques in cardiac ultrasound testing. Performs minor clerical duties as required. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonographer preferred, Associate's Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonographer or equivalent program with a Cardiovascular Technologist Certificate required. ARDCS or CCI certification required. Two years of experience as a registered echocardiography or vascular tech required. An understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics is required. Skills And Abilities Required Technical expertise with knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics. Analytical ability to perform and analyze complex cardiac pathologies by echocardiography. Ability to produce an initial interpretation to referring physicians. Manual dexterity sufficient to work with ultrasound transducer and delicate panels on equipment. Good understanding of equipment function and ultrasound physics. Ability to interact with patients and staff for smooth lab flow and genuine cooperation. Flexibility is essential, with the ability to work weekend shifts and perform bedside echocardiograms in intensive care units.
