Overview

The Department of Anthropology at Macalester College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Biological Anthropology, at the rank of Assistant Professor (with consideration for candidates at associate or full professor). The appointment begins fall 2026. A broad training in the four fields is desirable but not required. Specialization in biological anthropology is open, with a preference for candidates who can teach osteology and paleopathology, and/or forensic anthropology. The normal teaching load is 5 courses per year. In addition to topics in their specialization, the successful candidate should be prepared to teach introductory biological anthropology and courses on human evolution. Responsibilities

• Teach a 5-course load per year, including introductory biological anthropology and human evolution courses, and advanced courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. • Engage in scholarly research and contribute to the department’s research mission. • Contribute to service activities within the department and the college as appropriate. Qualifications

• Substantial teaching experience and evidence of sound scholarship and research experience. • Broad training in the four-field approach is desirable; specialization in biological anthropology with ability to teach osteology and paleopathology and/or forensic anthropology is preferred. • Candidates may negotiate a shortened timeline to tenure, depending on experience. The starting salary range for this position is $83,000–$85,000, depending on experience. For advanced assistant or associate level candidates, salary would be higher based on internal equity.
