Assistant Professor of Linguistic Anthropology

Assistant Professor

to begin August 16, 2026. The faculty of the Department of Anthropology, in conjunction with the Linguistics Program at the University of South Carolina, invites applications. The Department of Anthropology will be the tenure home for this position, with teaching assignments serving both the Department of Anthropology and the Linguistics Program. Responsibilities

Maintain an active and productive program of research that may include public scholarship and demonstrate potential for securing extramural funding. Teach large introductory undergraduate courses serving general education and major requirements, as well as upper-division and graduate courses in the area of specialization. Usually teach two courses per semester; mentor graduate students in both anthropology and linguistics; participate in the administrative life of the department, the college, and the university. Collaborate across a broad group of partners, including colleagues in different disciplines, campus research institutes, and community partners. Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

Applicants must hold a PhD in Anthropology, Linguistics, or a closely related field by the start date. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience grounded in ethnographic, collaborative, and community-based approaches to research that are founded in a commitment to social justice; innovative and synergistic theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of language; geographic area, research focus, and language(s) of specialization are open; opportunities to collaborate across disciplines and with community partners.
