Req#: 4085888 This posting is for one TLT STI/HIV Partner Services Disease Research and Intervention Specialist (DRIS) position. This position is 40 hours per week, onsite and will be for 1 year contract. This position will cover both King County Correctional Facility and the Maleng Regional Justice Center, dependent on patient location.

The Disease Research & Intervention Specialist (DRIS) provides client-focused HIV/STI partner services, and patient counseling for risk behaviors for acquiring and transmitting STIs. The DRIS explores risk reduction methods to promote and support client sexual health. The JHS DRIS conducts all phases of disease investigation within the jails. This includes disease surveillance, patient interviewing, partner collection and reassignment, linkage to testing or treatment, counseling and referrals, and timely documentation of investigation findings into surveillance systems and EPIC.

Work Schedule: Current work hours are 7:00-3:30, M-F. May be asked to adjust hours based on organization’s needs.

Investigating case reports of persons diagnosed with a reportable STI or HIV Interview patients diagnosed with STIs/HIV and elicit detailed information about personal behaviors as well as partner names, identifying information and other information. Contact untreated patients and notify exposed partners that are currently incarcerated to arrange for examination, diagnosis, and/or medical treatment. Interpret diagnostic testing results, inform patients of results, and link positive patients to treatment. Interact with outside medical clinics, hospitals, laboratories, and correctional facilities to verify patient and treatment information. Support Jail Health Services providers during on-clinic shifts with patient medical history including past treatment information. Conduct STI pre- and post-testing and counseling for STIs and HIV testing. Elicit detailed medical information from providers for case reporting-, including contacting providers to verify patient and treatment information. Provide patients with information about potential health risks related to STIs/HIV and assist in developing a client-centered plan to reduce future risk for STIs/HIV. Perform venipuncture and collect STI specimens. Develop and present sexual health education for patients and staff. Assure confidentiality of all records, data, and information as required by section, department, state and/or federal regulation. Attend Jail Health Services and Public Health meetings as necessary. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge of HIV and STI transmission modes, symptoms, and implications. Knowledge, skills, and abilities in the areas of medical terminology, diagnosis, and treatment. Ability to provide HIV/STI health information simply and concisely with health literacy in mind. Venipuncture experience Ability to work effectively with people of diverse identities and experiences. Ability to establish and maintain effective, respectful working relationships. Demonstrated interviewing and partner elicitation skills, as well as application of motivational interviewing, behavior change theory and risk reduction strategies Willingness and comfort working with vulnerable populations including those experiencing homelessness, mental health, and substance use. Demonstrated health education and counseling skills. Experience in medical chart abstraction using electronic health records and/or other client level data repositories. Experience with computer applications including Word, Excel, Access, and web browsing. Experience with data entry. Able to speak and write effectively for clear communication Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment in making decisions. Experience working in a multi-disciplinary clinic-setting Ability to follow procedures/protocols and apply them to unpredictable situations. Ability to protect PHI and other confidential information. Must be available to work onsite at both Jail Health Services locations. Desired Qualifications:

Fluency in Spanish Medical Assistant (M.A.) experience or credential Phlebotomist credential NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possess a valid WA State Driver’s License Staff may be required to play an active role in the event of a public health emergency, which may include changes in responsibilities and working hours.
