limitless possibilities.

We are differentiated in the composition of our team, which includes individuals from all areas— science, technology, and business —who share apioneering mindset, and are passionate about finding better ways to create medicines for patients.

We seek diverse perspectives because we believe that engaging in candid, productive conflict around ideas is how we will push the boundaries of

the possible . Senior Scientist I, Protein Engineering and Synthetic Biology

About Generate:Biomedicines Generate:Biomedicines is a new kind of therapeutics company – existing at the intersection of machine learning, biological engineering, and medicine – pioneering Generative Biology to create breakthrough medicines where novel therapeutics are computationally generated, instead of being discovered. The Company has built a machine learning-powered biomedicines platform with the potential to generate new drugs across a wide range of biologic modalities. This platform represents a potentially fundamental shift in what is possible in the field of biotherapeutic development. We pursue this audacious vision because we believe in the unique and revolutionary power of generative biology to radically transform the lives of billions, with an outsized opportunity for patients in need. We are seeking collaborative, relentless problem solvers that share our passion for impact to join us! Generate:Biomedicines was founded in 2018 by Flagship Pioneering and has received nearly $700 millionin funding, providing the resources to rapidly scale the organization. The Company has offices in Somerville and Andover, Massachusetts with 300+ employees. The Role: The Protein Engineering team is seeking a highly innovative and collaborative Senior Scientist I to drive the development and implementation of large-scale, NGS-based functional assays. In this role, you will lead the translation of Generate’s cutting-edge technologies into high-impact therapeutic applications that harness the full power of our computational and experimental platforms. This role will collaborate closely with teams across DNA Read/Write, Prototyping Lab, MachineLearning, and Early-Stage Biology to pioneer novel workflows for scalable functional screening. This is an ideal opportunity for a scientist who thrives at the interface of technology development and translational potential – someone who enjoys building new tools and using them to ask meaningful biological questions . Here's how you will contribute: Design and implement state-of-the art large-scale quantitative assays to evaluate the biological function of protein designs Collaborate with computational teams to guide experimental design and data analysis Translate emerging technologies from Prototyping Lab into scalable, validated platforms for therapeutic exploration Communicate experimental strategies, results, and insights clearly and effectively across multidisciplinary teams Support platform innovation with theoretical analysis, modeling, and literature review Generate novel intellectual property and contribute to patent filings The Ideal Candidate will have: PhD in biomedical engineering, synthetic or systems biology, biophysics, or related discipline with 4+ years of relevant experience or BS/MS with 10+ years of relevant experience.Exceptional candidates with fewer years of experience may also be considered Expertise in synthetic biology or protein engineering, with particular emphasis on DNA library construction, protein library screening, and NGS assay development Proficiency in computational analysis using Python, MATLAB, or related tools, particularly for NGS and high-throughput datasets Experience with gene editing technologies for developing engineered cell lines Strong quantitative mindset and scientific intuition Demonstrated ability to translate experimental tools into biologically meaningful applications Highly collaborative, intellectually curious, and motivated to work across disciplines Experience with computational modeling and/or laboratory automation is a plus #LI-AE1 Generate:Biomedicines is
