Lakeside School, an independent, coeducational day school in north Seattle, WA, is seeking a dedicated and vigilant part-time Community Safety Officer to provide security coverage for athletic and other events after school on evenings and weekends during the school year. This pivotal role is focused on maintaining a safe and secure environment for our diverse community of students, faculty, and staff. As a member of our community safety team, you will play a crucial role in upholding our standards for safety and security, ensuring that Lakeside School remains a welcoming and secure place for learning and growth. Responsibilities

Monitor athletic and other school events, ensuring the safety and security of all participants and attendees and addressing any safety-related issues as they arise. Provide a visible professional presence. Defuse situations and de-escalate conflicts calmly and effectively, ensuring the safety of all individuals involved. Patrol event premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure the security of doors, windows, and gates. Work closely with event managers and staff. Coordinate with law enforcement and emergency responders when necessary. Patrol and monitor premises, focusing on access points to buildings and property. Report incidents and irregularities to community safety management. Identify, investigate, and address suspicious behavior, threats, and irregular activities. Respond to alarms as directed. Monitor and control the entrance and departure of employees, students, and visitors according to established protocols. Detect and confront unauthorized persons and violators of security procedures. Enforce relevant laws and regulations on the property. Conduct both exterior property checks and interior building patrols. Secure and unlock exterior doors as required.

Requirements And Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED Certificate. Two to three years of previous experience as a security guard is preferred. Experience in customer service or related fields is beneficial. Have a valid Washington State Driver’s License with a good driving record. Ability to operate school vehicles. Demonstrated knowledge of security operations and safety practices. Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with co-workers, staff, and contractors. Proven cultural awareness, including understanding and respecting diverse perspectives and cultivating meaningful relationships across cultural boundaries. Skills in de-escalating conflicts in a non-confrontational, calm, and effective manner. Candidates must satisfactorily complete three criminal history background checks.

Working Conditions

This role requires navigating stairs and standing or walking for extended periods. Work is primarily outdoors; must tolerate and perform duties in varying weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. Occasionally exposed to wet, humid, or airborne particle conditions. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs. Noise levels may be loud at times.

Compensation

Salary Range: $19-24 per hour
