The Valley of the Sun YMCA is honored to be among the top 50 YMCA associations in the United States. Job Description Directs sports promotion, retention, and program activities. Oversees the operations of the sports department and programs, including staff supervision, budget management, and planning. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in physical education, recreation or equivalent preferred. Two or more years of supervisory experience in a sports program. Experience with computers including word processing and database software. Ability to train sports instructors, coaches, referees, and site supervisors. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the recruitment, training and supervision of professional staff and volunteers. Must have good interpersonal, public relations and communication skills, including the ability to make oral presentations. Ability to communicate effectively with members, staff, peers, volunteers, and supervisor. Ability to effectively communicate information on YMCA Sports Programs. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations. Current certifications in YMCA Sports Director, CPR, First Aid. Essential Functions With the guidance of the Executive Branch Director and the Director of Sports Programs, develops, implements, and manages sports programs, complying with all Association standards and safety procedures. Recruits, hires, and trains all staff and volunteer positions. Supervises and evaluates staff regularly to ensure program quality and consistency. Makes recommendations to Branch Executive regarding staff performance issues and concerns. Officiates and instructs as needed. Secures facilities for programs. Administers the sports programs within the departmental budget. Develops, manages, and controls sports department budgets. Assesses and recommends budgeting for program needs. Ensures that program areas, equipment and supplies are maintained orderly and safely. Provides data and reports on assigned programs in support of the planning process of the branch and Association. Develops, produces, and disseminates appropriate program information to promote sports programs to the public and current members. Provides staff leadership for annual fundraising campaign and other committees as assigned. Represents the branch at various meetings related to the position. Incorporates the mission, philosophy, and 4 core values of the YMCA in all communication with participants and co-workers. Attend required abuse risk management training. Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
