Research and Development Manager, Crop Nutrition
Global project management of strategic Crop Nutrition research initiatives . Manage 3-5 strategic research projects that will improve Mosaic revenue by $100M+ by 2028. Collaborate with customers or customer-facing internal employees to understand current challenges/new product opportunities and then develop a research plan to solve them. Efforts will include “discovery” and “development” R&D activities to identify, develop, and supply R&D information needed to scale new technologies. Core research objectives include confirmation of product concept viability, mode of action, and agronomic efficacy. Utilization of internal innovation processes such as StageGate or Product Leadership Team will be required. Develop lab, greenhouse, and field protocols and coordinate with internal and external cooperators to deploy said trials. Properly analyze and archive generated data. Excellent communication, collaboration, R&D leadership skills will be needed from idea inception through commercialization. A deep understanding of and experience in various forms of chemistry are required, including material chemistry and preferably nano-chemistry and inorganic chemistry. 40% Research alliance management.
Lead 3-5 of Mosaic’s global university research alliances (e.g., University of Adelaide, Sabanci University, Dalhousie University, University of Illinois, and/or others where necessary) with an investment of up to +$2M annually to develop new products. Excellent communication skills are required to maintain correspondence with said research alliance and to negotiate terms of the relationship and to coordinate with other internal departments. Inventory new ideas, explore collaborative new solutions, coordinate product shipment, and coordinate report-outs. Leverage the external facing extension of Mosaic’s R&D program to also support other internal programs such as operations, APT, commercial, or internal agronomy/R&D teams. Additional responsibilities include the management of sensitive documentation: non-disclosure agreements, material testing and transfer agreements, and invention disclosure forms to properly protect Mosaic’s interest in specific spaces. 10% Serve as a global Mosaic Subject Matter Expert in chemistry:
Leverage PhD level expertise in chemistry to support global organizational strategies. Liaison new learnings with all global Mosaic Agronomists and R&D teams by synthesizing key learnings into relevant commercial or R&D information. Collaborate closely with other discovery efforts of Mosaic Crop Nutrition and BioSciences R&D programs. Properly inventory data and report key learnings to internal stakeholders, project teams, and organizational leadership. Work collaboratively to ensure that Mosaic research is carried out with the most appropriate and advanced methods, and in a manner that reflects Mosaic’s commitment to integrity. Identify opportunities for new research initiatives aligned with Mosaic's strategic priorities by attending research conferences and reading published research literature. Creative and innovative ideas are fostered and encouraged. Identify collaborative partnerships that may accelerate our R&D process. About the company
