Overview

Sonoma Water is seeking a skilled Systems Software Analyst to join the Information Technology team. This position will be a technical lead for IT infrastructure and operations across the organization, ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability of critical software and network infrastructure. The role involves troubleshooting, triage, and analysis using network monitoring tools and diagnostic equipment. Responsibilities

Manage complex network architectures including VLANs, subnetting, routing protocols, and network segmentation; perform capacity planning, bandwidth analysis, and optimization for enterprise infrastructure. Design, implement, and maintain foundational technologies such as virtualization, storage administration, Web (IIS), Active Directory, Exchange, SQL, and network infrastructure. Analyze new technology solutions for impact on existing hardware, software, and processes; provide informed recommendations to management and customers. Implement and maintain IT security frameworks including endpoint protection, vulnerability management, security monitoring, incident response procedures, and compliance. Provide training to department staff on system usage, conduct one-on-one training, and develop online documentation for the knowledge base. Install, configure, and maintain desktop and server operating systems and application deployment systems for Water Agency staff. Skills and Qualifications

Experience with advanced networking technologies, including capacity planning and performance monitoring. Strong analytical ability to gather, analyze, and evaluate data; draw valid conclusions and make recommendations. Experience with Microsoft Server Operating Systems and enterprise Windows infrastructure management. Knowledge of data security and cybersecurity best practices, including threat assessment and risk mitigation. Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving system issues and coordinating with vendors across multiple platforms. Scripting and automation experience (PowerShell, Python, or VBScript) for system administration and network management tasks. Excellent administrative, analytic, organizational, written, and interpersonal skills. About Sonoma Water

Sonoma Water is a special district formed by the California State Legislature in 1949 and provides a safe and reliable water supply to customers in Sonoma and Marin counties. It maintains 75 miles of flood control channels and provides sanitation services. The agency employs approximately 250 people across divisions including Engineering & Resource Planning, Environmental Resources, Business Services & External Affairs, and Water/Wastewater Operations & Maintenance. Sonoma Water supports environmental sustainability and aims to lead in water use efficiency and fishery restoration programs. Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

Three years of technical professional experience in systems analysis, programming, systems engineering, or a similar multi-platform environment, including installing and maintaining systems software and working with database structures. Substitution of highly relevant experience for education is possible. Education:

Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field. License:

Valid driver's license as required by assignment; possession of a California driver’s license is required for this position. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge:

Operating systems, software products, database principles, data security, troubleshooting methods, and vendor support. Working Knowledge:

LAN/WAN design and operation, network inter-relationships among mainframe, PC, and network systems; systems analysis techniques. Ability:

Plan, design, upgrade, install, and tune systems software; create specifications; provide technical support; write procedures and documentation; analyze problems and develop effective solutions; collaborate with staff, customers, and vendors; prepare clear reports. Selection Procedure
