CACI is looking for a Flight Software Mission Evaluation Room (MER) Integration Engineer to support the Lunar Gateway Program at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. The Gateway station will be an outpost orbiting the moon that provides vital support for a sustainable, long-term human return to the lunar surface, as well as a staging point for deep space exploration. The Gateway is a destination for astronaut expeditions and science investigations, as well as a port for deep space transportation such as landers en route to the lunar surface or spacecraft embarking to destinations beyond the Moon. Candidates should have great interest in space vehicles and distributed flight software systems, enjoy coordination of engineering team efforts, and most of all, possess a great passion to contribute to our Nation’s exploration of space.
This position involves providing technical leadership for the Gateway Level 2 Flight Software team’s preparation and planning for Mission Evaluation Room operations post-launch. The flight software console will allow engineering team members to assess data downlinked from the station, support real-time flight operations by providing engineering expertise, and assess anomalies involving flight software during flight. This role will involve developing training products for the flight software MER console, assisting in identification and development of necessary ground software tools, coordination of training plans for flight software engineers as well as cross-team with other related engineering teams. Integrating closely with MER Manager leads and other MER console teams will be a significant part of the position as well. The ideal candidate will draw from their experience in flight operations support or technical training development as well as concepts of operations and flight software use cases to develop the necessary training and identify necessary ground tools – while working with the data analysts and developers on the current team to plan necessary displays and development of those tools.
Responsibilities
Work with current team members and existing documentation to identify and refine necessary training to support the flight software MER console
Identify gaps in current training documentation and document any newly developed training processes
Work with current flight operators and ISS support staff to identify existing training that can be ported or modified for Gateway MER use
Assist in identification of necessary ground tools, and lead management of development activities and certification efforts
Work with MER managers to identify existing general purpose tools that can be ported for Gateway use
Coordinate with other MER console teams and MER manager leads to develop training plans and coordinate joint trainings
Qualifications Required:
U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines.
5-10 years’ experience (greater experience highly valued) in one of the following areas: Flight operations or engineering support for vehicle operations; Software development (ideally flight software), including overall project design, programming, testing, verification, and documentation; Development of technical training materials or technical process documentation
Experience in evaluating data from aerospace systems to assist in anomaly resolution or assessment of system performance
Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment, and possess strong technical expertise combined with strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
Highly responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic.
Desired:
Experience integrating data products with software. Experience in human-rated safety critical flight software in aerospace or other industries.
Experience with autonomous systems, distributed systems, fault management, and mission planning and execution.
Knowledge of space vehicle systems, e.g., avionics; command and telemetry; command and control; vehicle management; systems management; power; propulsion; thermal; ECLSS; guidance, navigation, and control; communications and tracking
Experience coordinating technical issues across multiple engineering teams.
Pay and Benefits Pay Range: The Proposed Salary Range For This Position Is $76,000 - 155,700 USD. There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. Our employees value the flexibility at CACI that allows them to balance quality work and their personal lives. We offer competitive compensation, benefits and learning and development opportunities.
