Overview
Lead Scientist - AI & Computer Vision - Aerospace Research at GE Aerospace Research. Our researchers advance Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision technology to solve industrial problems for the Future of Flight. The work spans fundamental and applied exploration with goals including sustainable air travel, beyond-atmosphere travel, and national security support. As a Lead Scientist, you will design, experiment, analyze, improve, and apply new AI / CV technology. You will move concepts from fundamentals to prototypes and transition technologies into new solutions that impact design, manufacturing, testing, operation, reliability, and replacement. You will contribute to and lead projects across GE Aerospace business units and collaborate with researchers across disciplines and external partners in academia and government. Essential Responsibilities
Work with and lead teams of researchers on new and continuing projects Develop software solutions for applying machine learning and artificial intelligence to aerospace programs, impacting GE Aerospace products, internal tools, and practices Implement and analyze prototypes and solutions for real-world problems Employ software libraries, tools, and practices to create efficient, scalable, and reusable solutions Collaborate with GE Aerospace’s AI / CV experts to define and pursue strategic advancement of new technologies Publish novel findings in scientific workshops, conferences, and journals Create intellectual property by writing invention disclosures and filing patents Develop technical and leadership skills for future roles as a Senior Scientist or Technical Manager Qualifications/Requirements
MS + 5 years experience or PhD + 2 years experience in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related fields with a focus on AI, ML, and/or Computer Vision Minimum of 2 years of commercial or industrial experience Demonstrated ability to write Python code for quick demonstrations as well as robust, scalable software systems Willing to travel a minimum of 2 weeks per year Willing to relocate to work in Niskayuna, NY Legal authorization to work in the U.S. No visa sponsorship Ideal Candidate Characteristics
Ph.D. focusing on AI, ML, and/or CV Deep expertise in areas such as Geometry in CV, AI for CT Imaging, ML + Physics, Explainable ML, Graph Neural Networks, Causal Inference Experience writing grant proposals and engaging with government agencies (e.g., DARPA, ARL, AFRL, ONR) Ability to obtain Secret (or higher) US Government clearance Post-doctoral or industrial experience inventing and developing new AI / CV technologies Extensive publications in peer-reviewed venues Contributions to public domain codebases or significant GitHub portfolio Compensation and Benefits
The base pay range is 90,000 - 175,000 USD annually. Pay is influenced by experience, education, and skills. Eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on base salary. This posting is expected to close on November 10, 2025.
