Location: Irving, TX (Dallas area) – Remote/work-from-home options with occasional onsite presence as needed. Job Description The Senior Operations Research Developer on the Baker Network Optimizer Team will design and implement advanced mathematical solutions that directly enhance the efficiency and profitability of thousands of daily flights across a large fleet. This role offers deep exposure to the full spectrum of airline operations, including aircraft routing, crew planning and recovery, passenger movement, ground operations, and maintenance. The Senior Operations Research Developer is a detail-oriented thinker who looks forward to driving the future of Technology at Southwest. Responsibilities Develop mathematical models based on business requirements Develop solution strategies to solve models developed Develop code to implement solution strategies Prepare technical documentation of models and solution strategies Lead reviews of models, solution strategies, and code with the Team Test applications to ensure they perform as expected and solve the correct problem Lead reviews of solutions with business Customers to ensure acceptability Calibrate the model or solution strategy as needed Collaborate with the Team, business Customers, Technology development Teams, and support groups Provide support for developed applications, create enhancements, or recalibrate as business needs change Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to less-experienced Team members May perform other job duties as directed by Leaders Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Knowledge of standard programming languages and development tools Knowledge of software development, concepts, and technology Strong optimization aptitude and abstract thinking Strong partnering, communication, and negotiation skills with business Customers and tech teams Ability to perform root-cause analysis, design complex solutions, write code, test, document, and implement optimization projects Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems Ability to work in a customer-service/team-oriented environment Ability to work independently where appropriate Ability to contribute ideas on other active projects Education Required: High School Diploma or GED Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or similar fields or equivalent experience Preferred: PhD in Mathematics or Industrial Engineering Experience Expert-level experience applying Operations Research methods in a business environment (PhD with lesser business experience accepted) Experience with Xpress, CPLEX, or other industrial LP/IP optimization tools Licensing/Certification N/A Physical Abilities Ability to work from a desk/office area for extended periods Ability to communicate in English Ability to use a computer and productivity tools efficiently Other Qualifications Maintain a well-groomed appearance per company guidelines U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the United States Must be at least 18 years of age Commitment to attendance standards Willingness to travel to Company and non-Company facilities as needed Pay & Benefits Salary range: $153,000 – $170,000 per year, dependent on qualifications and experience Bonuses available for eligible roles at the discretion of the company Benefits include flight privileges, 401(k) contributions, ProfitSharing, and comprehensive health insurance More benefits at https://careers.southwestair.com/benefits EEO Statement Southwest Airlines is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
