Position Description Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems offers an excellent opportunity for a Sr Principal Engineer Systems – Interface (25-458), to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. This role, based in Colorado Springs, CO, or Huntsville, AL, is essential in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.

This position does not offer relocation support and requires on-site work with no remote options.

What You Will Do

Lead the development of ICDs and IDDs, establishing new interfaces between external components (e.g., sensors) and other Command and Control Systems.

Ensure ICDs and IDDs meet program standards; develop behavioral diagrams to document requirements.

Create detailed requirements in DOORS to communicate with implementation teams.

Be assigned to the C2BMC Systems Engineering Team within SEIT; act as a Systems Engineer and support non-interface systems engineering activities as needed.

Attend interface working group meetings with MDA customers and external element engineering organizations; support program integration and test efforts for the interface.

Provide support to other interface engineers, requirements engineering, use cases, and logical architecture modeling as required by the SE department.

Support spiral leadership to ensure interface artifacts and system assessment tasks for the assigned sensor interface are completed when needed.

Demonstrate understanding of the systems engineering process and apply SE principles to develop product solutions.

Perform requirements elicitation and develop behavioral models/diagrams, including use cases, sequence diagrams, and activity diagrams.

Maintain excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree in STEM, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related field with 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree with 6 years; or a PhD with 4 years of relevant experience (Master’s preferred).

Current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance required at the time of application and to start.

Willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs.

Demonstrated Systems Engineering expertise with interface engineering, including ICDs/IDDs, message definitions/processing rules, and message formatting (e.g., XML, VMF).

Knowledge of physical/network specifications/models (ISO OSI, network topologies, devices, and protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP).

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Systems Engineering.

INCOSE CSEP Certification.

OCSMP - MBF Certification.

Experience authoring MDS ICDs/IDDs or Complex Command and Control Systems ICDs/IDDs.

Experience with IBM DOORS and RMF-based cybersecurity; familiarity with Agile/Iterative development methods.

Salary and Benefits Salary ranges vary by location:

Huntsville: $131,100 – $196,700

Colorado Springs: $124,900 – $187,300

Primary Level Salary Range: $124,900.00 – $196,700.00. This is a general guideline; base offers consider scope, responsibilities, candidate experience, education, and market conditions. Overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses may apply where eligible. U.S. Citizenship is required for government-cleared positions and certain restricted roles.
