Oversee the execution of local data center operations at one or more data center properties, including engineering operations and core infrastructure maintenance. Data center construction management, commissioning and start-up; delivery of data center services including colocation, connectivity, raised floor services and deployment. Installation and management of all cable and network infrastructure supporting facility and customer connectivity. Technical event management including post-event root cause analysis and infrastructure repair. If the property’s Property Manager is not located at the property, oversee general facility operations (security, janitorial and other facility management functions). Ensure reliability of critical loads by participating in scheduling, coordination and completion of planned and emergency maintenance events. Identify operational strategies to achieve the highest level of availability for Digital Realty’s data center operations. What You’ll Do
Execute all aspects of data center operations to achieve 100% uptime and 100% compliance with customer SLAs, including operation, maintenance and repair of mission critical equipment and systems for a 24x7 data center. Supervise construction activity and installations, ensuring design, installation and testing adhere to operational standards. Witness testing during commissioning and validate sequences of operations and operational documentation. Manage provisioning of data center services to data center customers (colocation, connectivity, raised floor services, deployment). Coordinate customer move-ins and turn-ups, including deployments, power circuit installations and connectivity requirements, with Sales Engineering, Design & Construction and Colocation Operations. Oversee local installation, maintenance and repair of network infrastructure supporting Digital Realty and customer connectivity in coordination with internal IT and network personnel. Supervise local engineering team to ensure adherence to SOPs, sequences of operations and maintenance standards. Develop, implement and audit local SOPs and maintenance standards in line with Digital Realty’s standards and industry best practices. Supervise change management processes, including review and approval of all MOPs for maintenance and emergency repairs with onsite personnel, contractors and customers. Manage maintenance and repair contracts to ensure compliance with standards and scopes of work. Ensure timely execution of data center services such as remote hands, customer installations and service requests. Supervise security personnel and manage security systems in accordance with on-site policies and the Property Manager’s requirements. Act as primary technical and operational contact for data center customers, providing escalation support and developing knowledge of the customer’s core business and data center operations. Manage incidents with emergency response, coordination, customer communication, root-cause analysis and post-event remediation. Identify trends and analyze risks to inform implications for data center operations; track metrics for management oversight and long-term trends. Identify process improvements that improve operational and financial efficiency, including developing and presenting business cases. Support the Property Manager with budgeting, forecasting and reporting by providing capital and expense requirements and justifications. Support pre-sales processes, including sales tours and review of lease proposals to ensure compliance with Digital Realty standards and local requirements. Support accreditation initiatives (e.g., SSAE16, SOC2, ISO 27001) as required by Digital Realty. Maintain compliance with local health & safety standards (e.g., OSHA) and national electrical and building codes. What You’ll Need
10 years of related facility management experience in data center operations (or related electrical or mechanical engineering) with a minimum of 5 years leading data center operations teams in a large-scale mission-critical environment. Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering preferred. Strong experience in construction, commissioning, acceptance and operation of mission-critical systems, including electrical distribution, UPS, standby generation, fire alarm/suppression and monitoring systems. Extensive knowledge of structured cabling systems, networking and connectivity standards, and hardware installation requirements. Proficient experience in colocation operations, including installation and deployment of cage, rack and cable infrastructure, power circuits and power monitoring. Experience with telecom and network providers in Meet Me Room and POP environments. Experience managing a change-control environment. Strong analytical and communication skills; ability to identify root causes, performance gaps and corrective actions. Knowledge of industry data center standards, policies and methodologies; performance management practices. Strong interpersonal, presentation and organizational skills. Experience managing budgets and analyzing expenses. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; familiarity with Microsoft Project, Visio or AutoCAD.
