This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Provides supervision of subordinate employees and direction in the daily operation of Freedman State Historical Park and Patuxent River State Park. This position is responsible for managing two distinct park operations in accordance with short-term and long-term resource management and recreation goals of each land unit, with the objective of providing a safe and attractive park setting for visitors. Position Duties

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Maryland Park Service is accepting applications for a State Park Ranger Manager I at Freedman’s State Historical Park in Brookville, MD. The position operates under the managerial supervision of the South Central Regional Manager and is responsible for overseeing visitor resources, personnel, equipment and facility management, maintenance and protection of Maryland State Parks. This role develops strategies to address issues and opportunities to enhance park programs and operations, maximize revenues, and meet visitor expectations for quality resource-based recreation and interpretive services. It also ensures proper allocation and use of park resources such as personnel, equipment and funding; reviews, evaluates and supports emergency response capabilities; develops plans for visitor services, resource protection, and employee safety activities; represents the Department of Natural Resources as a liaison with local governments, businesses and community groups; and enforces DNR regulations and policies to ensure public safety and protection of Maryland’s natural, cultural, historical and recreational resources. Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

Eight years of experience supervising personnel engaged in park or forest operations work. Notes: Candidates may substitute additional experience in park or forest operations work at the rate of two years for each year of supervisory experience for up to two years of the required experience. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree in forestry, forest management, natural resources management, parks and recreation, business management, education, history or a related natural science and four years of experience supervising personnel engaged in park or forest operations work for the required experience. Candidates may substitute a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in forestry, forestry management, natural resources management, parks and recreation, business administration, education, history or a related natural resources field for five years of the required experience. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in a management and program clerical and assistance classification or related codes in the general, administrative, clerical, and office services field on a year-for-year basis for the required experience, four years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity. Desired or Preferred Qualifications

Professional experience in managing park operations and supervising employees in a Maryland State Park Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) Experience in budget and personnel management Experience in managing and maintaining park facilities and grounds Experience in managing natural, cultural and historical resources Experience working with community and government agency partners to provide public safety and resource protection Licenses, Registrations and Certifications

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. A motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland is required. Special Requirements

Employees are subject to call-in 24 hours a day. Employees may be assigned to any county of the State and may be required to reside in the assigned county or region upon permanent appointment. Employees must be trained in First Responder Training or other equivalent first aid training. Selection Process
