The Staff Accountant II supports the Financial Reporting and Accounting team by performing full cycle accounting duties, including preparing journal entries, variance explanations, account reconciliations, and assisting with month-end close and monthly department meetings. The role collaborates with Fleet Finance, Revenue Accounting, and FPA, and develops subject matter expertise in assigned areas with cross-training to provide backup when needed. This role works with other teams across the business and with CCL Finance and related departments.
Prepare monthly account reconciliations, research variances, prepare documentation and support, and follow up to clear reconciling items.
Assist in the management of day-to-day accounting processes for assigned areas (e.g., Fuel, R&M, Drydock, Comp & Benefits, Pension, P&I, Leases, IT, or other). Provide subject matter expertise to management and operating units.
Prepare adjusting journal entries and accruals during month-end closings.
Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports and deliverables for CFO, Controller, and other senior CCL management.
Assist in the preparation of various quarter- and year-end deliverables submitted to corporate.
Assist in performing analytical reviews of financial results and understand factors driving variances.
Manage scheduling and prepare agendas for monthly Finance department meetings (e.g., Pre-close and Balance Sheet Review), manage monthly deadlines, and send reminders for closing schedules and reconciliations.
Recommend and implement automation and other improvement initiatives to streamline month-end, quarterly, and annual close processes.
Support management in preparing required schedules and responding to requests from internal and external auditors.
Perform additional accounting analyses or special projects as requested and perform other job-related functions as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
CPA – working towards certification
3 or more years of experience in public or private accounting, with full-cycle accounting, month-end close, and variance analysis
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency in MS Office Suite with intermediate Excel (pivot and lookup tables). Knowledge of or ability to learn Oracle Financials or other related financial software.
Solid understanding of GAAP and ability to apply concepts to specific situations.
Knowledge of accrual-based accounting.
Strong analytical, collaborative, and time-management skills in a fast-paced team environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to use creative approaches to challenges.
Commitment to continuous improvement and problem-solving; sense of urgency in completing assignments.
Ability to prioritize workloads, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to a dynamic environment.
Personal integrity and respect for all individuals.
Work Conditions and Arrangements Physical Demands: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods.
Travel: No or very little travel likely.
Work conditions: Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
This position is classified as remote and allows full-time work from home. It may require regular travel to Carnival headquarters in Miami, FL for in-office collaboration. Sourcing of candidates is primarily in Carnival’s remote hubs (Orlando, Tampa, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas). If extended beyond those areas, candidates must be located in FL, GA, TX, or NC.
