Torrance, CA . The Controller should have an appetite and aptitude for finance as well as accounting. As the Controller, you will direct financial activities, oversee clerks, bookkeepers, and other accounting staff, and work with senior management to improve the profitability and growth of the company. The Controller performs acquisition due diligence and subsequent transition into existing operations, leads the annual audit for the company’s financial statements, and arranges audits of the company’s accounts. The Controller builds and maintains good working relationships with senior management, department leadership, and staff, and alerts management to potential problems on an ongoing basis. This is a growth opportunity for the right candidate to develop into a more senior management role. What We’re Looking For Ideal candidate is a

Japanese bilingual

candidate for reporting to Japan purposes, however it is not a 100% requirement. Responsibilities Oversee the outsourced accounting firm as well as the in-house accounting and expense tracking, etc., and a couple of in-house people who are doing commission tracking and insurance premiums bookkeeping. Assist senior management in developing financial strategy, including risk minimization plans and opportunity forecasting. Conduct high-level financial reporting and analysis. Perform regular budget consolidation. Review financial statements and ensure accuracy. Conduct cash flow management. Find ways to improve efficiencies and reduce costs across the business. Oversee debt management and collections. Review and oversee corporate and individual tax planning, ensure accurate and timely preparation and review of all required tax returns. Oversee and coordinate with vendors and EVP for annual report filing for required states. Ensure compliance with statutory law and financial regulations. Develop financial reviews. Audit payroll processing by outside vendor. Assist EVP and manage company’s internal and financial audit responsibilities. Work closely with senior management to share reports and analysis findings. Regularly prepare financial reports for EVP and President to be presented to the board/shareholders as a part of business plan. Manage and oversee accounting staff. Manage/oversee day-to-day premium accounting transactions. Responsible for updating and staying abreast of changes in accounting standards and regulations affecting the insurance industry and notifying senior management. Review, research, and develop expense monitoring and reporting procedures. Monitor trends and recommend opportunities for revenue and systems enhancement. Qualifications/Requirements Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or equivalent work experience. Minimum of 10 or more years of related experience. Proficient with MS Office Suite. Strong understanding of accounting, including insurance accounting and financial principles. Competency in utilizing accounting and financial software including Agency Management Systems for accounting/financial data functions. Strong mathematical and analytical skills. Superb cultural and social intelligence; open and respectful regarding linguistic and cultural differences; growth mindset. Compensation Package $100,000-$125,000 Inclusive benefits package, including health benefits and a 401k plan with employer matching. Competitive PTO and company holidays. This role is hybrid in Torrance, CA. There will be some in-office expectations, especially in the first few months, since the key people they will be working with are typically in-office people.
