Overview
This position is in the 911 Emergency Operations Division in the Office of Unified Communications (OUC). The incumbent will serve as an Assistant Watch Commander supervising a rotating 12-hour shift of Telecommunications Equipment Operators and Dispatchers, and will ensure the safety, orderly, and expeditious movement of police, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS) units to locations throughout the District of Columbia pertaining to emergency and non-emergency situations. Base pay range: $86,533.00/yr - $121,147.00/yr. This range is provided by The Office of Unified Communications. Supervise a rotating 12-hour shift of Telecommunications Equipment Operators and Dispatchers. Ensure the safe, orderly, and expeditious movement of police, fire, and EMS units to locations throughout the District of Columbia for emergency and non-emergency situations. Interview candidates for positions in the organization and recommend appointments, promotions, and/or reassignments. Identify developmental and training needs for employees, arrange needed development and training, and periodically review position descriptions for accuracy. Enhance production and quality of work by implementing improvements in supervision and processes. Substitute for Watch Commander as needed to ensure uninterrupted supervisory duties, phone and/or radio coverage. Prepare and promptly forward routine and unusual incident reports during shifts, including notification to appropriate officials for multiple alarms and unusual emergency incidents. Qualifications & Education
Specialized experience is directly related to the position and equips the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties. To be creditable, the incumbent must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression. Experience in supervising emergency call center operations is preferred. License & Certification

Tour of Duty: This position is designated as essential and the incumbent will be required to report to work or stay at work during a declared emergency or any other time as designated by the Mayor or his/her designee. This facility operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and the incumbent will be required to work a flexible and/or rotating 12-hour shifts. Shifts could be altered and/or extended at any time with notice. The incumbent must be able to work all shifts, holidays, and weekends; mandatory overtime may be required. Pay Plan, Series and Grade: MS-0301-12 Promotion Potential: No known promotion potential Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is not in the collective bargaining unit. Position Designation: This position has been designated as safety – sensitive. Therefore, the incumbent shall be subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC Personnel Regulations, Suitability and as such, incumbents shall be subject to criminal background checks, background investigations, and mandatory drug and alcohol testing, as applicable. Residency Preference: Applicants claiming "Residency Preference" will be required to maintain residency in the District of Columbia for a minimum of seven (7) years. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of employment.
