One of the regions most well known Retail organizations is currently looking for an Inventory Accountant. This role is part of large accounting team and offer great benefits and a year end bonus. About the Role
This role involves various accounting functions related to inventory management and cost accounting within a retail environment. Responsibilities
Prepares monthly journal entries and reconciliations related to inventory, cost of goods sold, and reserves. Monitors and analyzes inventory transactions to ensure accuracy across multiple retail locations, warehouses, and distribution centers. Reviews store-level and warehouse inventory counts, investigates discrepancies, and works with Retail Operations and Supply Chain teams to resolve variances. Ensures proper costing of inventory items, including overhead allocations, landed costs, markdowns, and shrinkage. Maintains and reconciles perpetual inventory sub-ledgers with the general ledger. Reviews purchase price variances and collaborates with Procurement and Merchandising on corrective actions. Prepares reports on inventory valuation, obsolescence, turnover, and sell-through metrics for management review. Supports month-end and year-end close processes, including retail audit schedules and supporting documentation. Develops and maintains spreadsheets, schedules, and reports to track inventory activity and support retail sales/margin analysis. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Accounting degree or relevant work experience. 2 to 3+ years of inventory accounting or cost accounting experience in the retail industry (preferred). Required Skills
Strong knowledge of inventory accounting and retail cost accounting principles. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, manage time, work efficiently, and meet deadlines. NetSuite or large ERP Experience required. Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred Skills
