Overview
The Director of Accounting provides leadership and oversight of all accounting operations for Sarasota County Schools. This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the District’s financial records, overseeing preparation of state and federal financial reports, and maintaining compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and accounting standards. The Director supervises and supports the work of the accounting team, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, grants, and fixed assets. The role works closely with district leadership to prepare the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, FDOE Annual Financial Report, budget schedules, and audit documentation, while also strengthening internal controls and implementing process improvements. This is a key leadership role within the Financial Services Department that requires strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of governmental accounting, and the ability to build collaborative relationships across the District.
