Position Overview The General Manager is responsible for leading through Petco’s vision of “Healthier Pets. Happier People. Better World.” to develop a high-performing team that delivers top-line sales growth while prioritizing the welfare, health, and proper care of all animals. The GM leads Pet Care Center managers, leaders, and partners and is accountable for all aspects of managing a single Pet Care Center. The role drives the business through a focus on people (talent acquisition, training, and development), performance (guest service, sales, and expense control), and process (standard operating procedures and policies), resulting in overall profitability. This position requires a passion for pets, the ability to inspire and lead a team, a focus on process excellence, and a drive for results. Position Responsibilities The GM regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment to execute Pet Care Center activity and create the best possible partner, guest, and pet experience. As a leader of people and pet care, the GM should perform all tasks skillfully and consistently. Build a team that embodies the Petco brand by delivering exceptional service and driving guest loyalty. Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of top talent. Train, coach, and develop leaders and hourly Pet Care Center partners in all areas required to run the store efficiently and to Petco standards, including effective rollout selling models. Create a professional environment that inspires growth and engagement of partners. Lead a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration, providing clear direction and priorities. Ensure quick and courteous service to all guests by helping partners determine needs and sharing product knowledge to enable appropriate solutions. Responsible for partner performance management in the Pet Care Center. Demonstrate and support a continuous improvement and growth mindset. Performance

Meet or exceed goals related to total Pet Care Center sales, profitability, and operational excellence. Schedule and adjust labor hours and payroll to maximize productivity and achieve sales and payroll goals. Review and interpret financial and operational reporting regularly, including center visits and audit results. Identify underperforming metrics and develop strategies to improve and grow the business using Petco programs, tools, and resources. Market the Pet Care Center and plan on-site and community events (adoptions, school visits, local promotions, and animal-welfare events). Process

Ensure proper health, appearance, welfare, and handling of all animals. Ensure merchandise is properly priced, displayed, and stocked according to inventory levels and guidelines; adjust merchandising to implement store-specific plans. Complete and submit accounting, inventory management, and payroll paperwork in a timely manner; keep expenses within budgeted levels. Maintain the Pet Care Center’s appearance and safety procedures in line with Petco standards. Protect pets and merchandise and minimize loss by adhering to standards and procedures, including safety, inventory control, and loss prevention. Open/close the center in accordance with policies, with emphasis on safety and security. Maintain the center’s professional image, appearance, and cleanliness. Other Essential Duties

Model inspiring leadership and selling behaviors to partners and associates; provide proactive leadership to maintain a positive business climate aligned with company goals. Promote safety by observing and implementing Petco policies and safety standards; safety of partners, guests, and pets is a top priority. Foster a collaborative culture that encourages ideas to increase efficiency and improve guest engagement and satisfaction. Prioritize talent development by building a strong bench of partners through training and recruitment. Engage and be present; represent Petco’s brand at a high level through positive leadership and a fun working environment. Education And Experience

High school diploma or equivalent; proficiency in basic business and finance acumen, analysis, problem-solving, and people development. Excellent communication and computer skills. Three or more years of management experience or the equivalent; prior retail management is preferred. Working knowledge of general business practices and strong organizational skills. Demonstrated customer service orientation and ability to instruct others; professional appearance and demeanor and genuine interest in animals. Must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle. Completion of PETCO Management Achievement Program modules may be required for internal candidates. Supervisory Responsibility: The General Manager directly supervises a team of leaders and is responsible for all Pet Care Center partners. Work Environment: Most duties are indoors; occasional stocking, carry-outs, and banking may require time outside the center. Requires bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and prolonged standing. Some travel may be required. Contacts: This position has continuous contact with the public at the Pet Care Center and related events, and regular contact with other departments, distribution centers, and support centers. External contact may be required for coordination of merchandise returns, ordering parts, Pet Care Center repairs, vaccination clinics, events, and vendor meetings.
