Vice President - Multifamily Development

Macdonald & Company is pleased to be exclusively retained by a nationally leading multifamily developer to identify and appoint a Vice President of Multifamily Development for their Houston office. This role will grow and scale the current pipeline and take on a market leadership position.
The company is an established multifamily developer, consistently ranked among the top 15 multifamily developers in the U.S. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with top-tier professionals internally and provides a clear path for growth into a senior leadership position within the business.
Reporting to the Managing Director for the Houston market, the Vice President will collaborate with the MD to source development opportunities. This role will be responsible for running pro forma analyses, conducting market research, preparing debt and equity packages, overseeing project design, and managing the development of projects under construction and in the pipeline. Additionally, the Vice President will engage with capital providers and other key stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Site Selection
— Identify and track potential development sites in the market and collaborate with the team to pursue the most promising opportunities. Site Feasibility
— Gather and analyze preliminary information related to potential sites (site quality, submarket trends, comparable sites, impact fees, real estate taxes); develop an initial product strategy (unit mix, amenities, and other features) to attract the target demographic and achieve rent targets. Due Diligence and Financing
— Lead and manage due diligence for projects under contract, review risks and value drivers (title, entitlements, environmental reports, soils analyses, etc.), coordinate with due diligence and design consultants, and oversee preparation of finance packages for lenders and equity partners. Coordinate with lenders and equity partners to obtain financing commitments and manage checklist items; oversee entity formations, corporate approvals, and collaboration with the construction team to secure building permits. — Oversee project design process in collaboration with Managing Director, construction, and design teams. Construction
— Monitor project budget and schedule after financing closes; provide executive oversight of construction and the draw process; coordinate turnover schedules, manage furniture installations, and approve lease-up budget/strategy; maintain relationships with debt and equity stakeholders and prepare monthly reports. Leasing
— Oversee lease-up and stabilization in collaboration with Property Management and Asset Management teams. Relationship Management
— Foster and maintain relationships with market players (landowners, brokers, capital sources, design and service providers); collaborate with internal Construction and Asset Management teams and external Property Management partners. Experience Required Bachelor’s Degree in business, science, or related discipline; or Associate’s Degree with related experience. Preference for Master’s in Business Administration or Master’s in Real Estate Development. Experience with all stages of the multifamily development process (site selection, entitlement and land closing through construction, lease-up, stabilization and/or disposition). Experience with Excel-based financial models, making well-reasoned assumptions based on market data and ROI calculations. 4–10 years of industry experience. Seniorities and Employment Seniority level
