Overview
Director of Operations - Events / Scenic Fabrication / Production. Location: NYC (Brooklyn) | On-site (shop & production floor presence). Type: Full-time. Compensation: $200,000 base + bonus. About The Company: We’re a growth-minded events and scenic fabrication partner serving film/TV, live events, experiential/brand activations, and corporate environments. Our in-house capabilities span carpentry, metal, CNC/waterjet, scenic paint, and large-format graphics, enabling fast, high-quality builds from concept through install. The Role
We’re hiring a Director of Operations to own end-to-end production operations - people, process, and performance. You will lead the shop, project management, scheduling, procurement, logistics, quality, and safety to deliver on-time, on-budget, high-craft work at scale. What You’ll Do
Run day-to-day operations: production schedule, capacity planning, labor planning, and cross-shop coordination (carpentry, metal, paint, graphics). Own margin & delivery: track job costing/WIP, reduce rework and rush fees, and drive on-time/first-time quality. Partner with sales/estimating: feasibility reviews, value engineering, and clean handoffs with clear scope, drawings, and timelines. Standardize execution: implement SOPs, job traveler templates, stage-gate reviews, change-order control, and close-out. Procurement & vendors: material planning, buying strategy, preferred vendor program, and just-in-time staging for installs. Safety & compliance: lead EHS (OSHA), training, near-miss tracking, and audit readiness. Systems & reporting: stand-up KPI dashboards (OTD, labor utilization, GM%, rework, safety), tighten job costing links with finance/ERP. Leadership: hire, coach, and develop PMs, supervisors, and leads; foster a safety-first, craftsmanship-obsessed culture. What You’ll Bring
8–12+ years operations leadership in scenic fabrication, exhibit/trade show, custom millwork/metal, or event production. Proven track record scaling throughput while improving on-time delivery and gross margin. Fluency in drawings, materials, and processes (e.g., CNC, metal fab, scenic finishes, graphics) and how they affect schedule/cost. Strong command of job costing/WIP, scheduling, and change-order governance. Builder’s mindset: SOPs, 5S/Lean, continuous improvement, and hands-on floor presence. Nice-to-haves: OSHA 30, PMP or equivalent, CAD/CAM familiarity (AutoCAD/Rhino), ERP/MRP experience. Why Join
Impact: Own the operating system of a high-craft, high-visibility shop. Team: Skilled producers, PMs, and fabricators across disciplines. Comp: $200k base + bonus, with benefits. Compensation Range: $200K
