Job Summary: The Assistant Store Manager collaborates with the Store Manager and leadership team to develop, document, and implement practices, policies, and strategies that support a performance and results-driven culture. This role oversees daily operations of the dispensary and handles the needs of all patients/customers. In conjunction with the Store Manager, this role is responsible for hiring and developing a team of highly motivated individuals who are passionate about cannabis and compliant with state and local rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

Oversee and perform all functions associated with management and oversight of a retail medical marijuana dispensary operating under licensure from the appropriate entity.

Administer routine inspections to maintain an accurate inventory of all cannabis products.

Manage and supervise the activities of dispensary staff and make recommendations or decisions regarding hiring, discipline, termination, or advancement of employees.

Ensure that all procedures are updated in store to provide best practice for staff and patients.

Train dispensary staff to ensure consistent performance and knowledge of company standard operating procedures, product knowledge, and best practices for dispensary personnel.

Ensure Key Performance Indicators are captured.

Manage daily financial reporting requirements and oversee cash handling procedures.

Develop and maintain a schedule of all dispensary staff.

Communicate patient incidents or complaints to the Store Manager, Regional Dispensary Manager, or Compliance team.

Protect patient rights by overseeing the employee HIPAA education program and ensuring confidentiality of protected health information and financial information.

Oversee patient education and counseling programs; review and revise information disseminated regarding conditions and cannabis products as appropriate.

Assist in implementing the strategic plan to guide the dispensary’s operation and expansion with direction from the Regional Dispensary Manager.

Maintain awareness of external and internal competitive landscape and opportunities for improvement.

Assist in ensuring compliance with all relevant statutes, regulations, and directives as well as best practices.

Strive for patient satisfaction and maintain a patient-friendly environment in the dispensary.

Ensure 100% traceability from product reception to sale to customer.

Notify the Compliance team and Head of Retail in the event of a high-risk customer complaint.

Maintain store appearance, cleanliness, safety, and guest readiness of all areas, including restrooms.

Qualifications

Must meet minimum age requirements as determined by local, state, and federal requirements.

Must complete background check as required by local, state, and federal requirements.

Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Physical aptitude and health necessary to perform manual tasks; may include lifting up to 75 lbs and pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs.

Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.

Experience

1-3 years in retail, customer care, or equivalent leadership role.

Working conditions

Work is primarily performed in a dispensary setting; environment may be odorous and loud due to filtration systems, with temperature fluctuations.

Frequent contact with staff, vendors, and customers; may involve dealing with law enforcement and state inspectors.

Physical requirements

Ability to communicate clearly with customers and caregivers regarding medical conditions and product information.

Proficiency with computer/POS systems and general office equipment.

Ability to remain stationary when checking in customers or operating the register.

Frequent movement of dispensary products/totes up to 30 lbs.

Ability to twist, turn, bend, stand, and walk as required to perform duties.
