The Director of Food Safety & Quality will develop, implement, and periodically evaluate Quality programs; ensure product conformity to customer specifications, Federal, State, and local regulatory legal requirements. Ensures that the organization’s Quality Systems from raw materials to finished products meet the quality, integrity, and efficiency standards set by the organization. Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct and oversee the quality department activities and staff. Responsible for providing directions to the Quality Managers of two plant locations, with head office in Los Angeles area in California. This position will require periodic visits to another site including travel during various company audits. Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive. Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. Duties/Responsibilities: Evaluates production operations from a strategic level to ensure that products meet quality, functionality, and other specifications and requirements. Collaborates & maintains effective working relationships with management & key stakeholders, both internal and external. Develops and implements standard testing and evaluation processes; ensures that all required inspections and tests are performed as per established protocol. Evaluates test procedures, results and approves recommended changes. Facilitates communication among cross functional departments to ensure efficient implementation of new procedures and continuing improvement initiatives. Reviews quality control documentation such as checklists, logs, and reports for effectiveness, accuracy, and relevance. Analyze statistical data including trend analysis, particularly failed processes; develops effective corrective actions and verification procedures. Periodically reports status of quality control and operations to executive leadership and, when required, regulatory agencies. Stay abreast of current regulatory trends and changes Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities: Excellent verbal, written communication and supervisory skills with the ability to train staff. Thorough understanding of the quality control standards and methodologies. Strong understanding of good manufacturing processes applied in the food industry. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong knowledge of food safety legislation and food safety issues. Trained and experienced in auditing, strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrate agility in critical thinking and risk assessment. Experience with food safety and quality management systems including verification of HACCP plan. Ability to manage change and transformations both in terms of processes and involving people Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Food science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Engineering or other technical degrees required; master’s in food science related degree preferred. Eight to 10 years of manufacturing experience in Food Processing facility required with at least five years as a Quality, Food Safety, Regulatory Manager or other related function. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times. Seniority level
