Overview
Seeking a proficient Shop Manager and Seasoned Mechanic to become a valuable addition to our team. The ideal candidate will have organizational skills and advanced skills in maintenance and repair of trucks, trailers, skid loaders, and small engines used in a Landscape Contractor setting. The role requires learning to prioritize equipment repairs and staying on track, contributing to the seamless and effective functioning of operations. A valid driving record is required for field repairs. In winter, field repairs and filling up skids/loaders in the field during snow events require 24/7 availability. Light plowing in between tasks is desirable. Location: Shakopee, MN, US.
Responsibilities
Maintain a clean and organized Shop and Yard, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored.
Hold Crew Leads accountable to clean up their areas, equipment, and trucks/trailers.
Perform routine maintenance, diagnose issues, and repair a fleet of trucks, trailers, skid loaders, front end loaders, zero-turn mowers, spray rigs, and other equipment.
Determine whether a piece of equipment is worth repairing or should be replaced.
Keep detailed records of maintenance performed and parts used.
Utilize new software for tracking equipment/truck/skid loader repairs.
Develop a better system for employees to report broken equipment.
Ensure all work complies with safety and environmental regulations and company policies.
Communicate effectively with the management team regarding the status of vehicles and equipment.
Year-Round Work; field repairs of mowers and landscape equipment during summer; trucks/trailers as needed.
During plow events, be available in the truck to service on-site skid loaders and trucks/plows and to fill skid loaders using the truck bulk diesel tank.
Manage equipment details: Trucks (Ram 2019-2025), Mowers (Scag/Exmark), Skid Loaders (CAT), Heavy-Duty Trucks (Ford F750).
Be punctual and report to work daily.
Winter-specific: 24/7 availability for field repairs and related field work.
Qualifications
Proven experience as a mechanic with a focus on truck and trailer maintenance, skid loader, and small engine repair.
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Experience with hydraulics preferred (mower/skid loader/front end loader/Hook Truck).
Welding and light fabrication experience preferred (mainly for repairs).
Ability to research mechanical issues using the internet, product manuals, and current vendors.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Organizational skills for shop/tool/yard management.
Good communication and ability to work effectively in a team.
Valid driver’s license.
High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in automotive or small engine repair is a plus.
Plowing experience preferred, but not required.
Job hours noted as 12:00pm - 8:00pm ideal, with flexibility.
Compensation $26 - $38 Hourly
