Position Description
The Early Start (ES) Program Assistant will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the day-to-day operations of the after-school and summer program for Jubilee Housing youth in grades K-3rd. The ES Program Assistant will report to the ES Program Coordinator. This is a permanent, part-time position. Work hours are Monday through Thursday, 1:30 pm – 7:30 pm; Fridays 9:00 am – 3:00 pm (approximately 30 hours per week). After-school hours during the school year are 3:30 – 7:00 pm, Monday–Thursday. During summer camp, hours are 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, Monday–Thursday, with Fridays 9:00 am – 12:00 noon (approximately 30 hours per week).
Responsibilities
Assist in the implementation of out-of-school-time and summer programming for youth in grades K through 3rd grade Lead daily activities, including tutoring, socioemotional learning, and enrichment activities Lead groups of youth in a safe, professional, and respectful manner Nurture a safe, respectful, inclusive environment Assist with outreach and communications for participant recruitment and retention Assist with administering and collecting student and parent surveys Update and maintain database input of all participants and program activities Establish and maintain communication with staff about student needs Develop positive relationships with parents Provide support to volunteer tutors and mentors Support children’s emotional, academic, and social development, and maintain awareness of individual needs Support Program Coordinator with implementation and tracking of individualized plans for each participant Support new program initiatives impacting Jubilee Housing and partner organizations, as directed Participate in family programming, volunteer recruitment, training, and support within Youth Services Create a plan and coordinate transition efforts for participants moving within Jubilee Youth Services Other duties as assigned by the Early Start Program Coordinator and Director of Youth Services
Qualifications
A commitment to supporting the academic performance and resourcefulness of youth from low-income families/background BS/BA in child/youth development, education, social work or related field preferred Commitment to professional development related to current trends in youth development Must undergo a comprehensive background check, including clearances for the National Sex Offender Registry and the District of Columbia Child Protection Registry, as well as FBI Background Checks Ability to use developmentally appropriate classroom management skills for K-3rd graders At least two years of experience working with Black and Latinx youth from low-income households, preferably middle school-aged Demonstrable experience working as part of a team
