Overview

Patient Finance Specialist is a full-time role at Jackson Health System located in Miami, FL, within the Central Clearance Center. The position focuses on timely and accurate patient registration, interviewing patients for all pertinent account information, and verifying insurance coverage. Responsibilities

Interview patients and/or family or responsible party at workstation or bedside to obtain all necessary account information. Perform bedside registration using carts or computers on wheels; obtain patient demographic information with insurance and financial information as warranted. Search the Master Patient Index (MPI) to assign the correct medical record number; notify supervisor or designate of any changes; verify insurance and obtain pre-certification/authorization for services as warranted. Obtain proper authorization for treatment and approved codes from insurance carriers; assign insurance plan accurately; calculate and collect patient liable amounts; explain policies regarding services rendered according to JHS collection policies. Receive and process all patient payments in accordance with JHS Collections Policy and Procedure; issue receipts and maintain integrity of all payments; secure required signatures for treatments, release of medical information, assignment of insurance benefits and payments from legally responsible parties. Obtain copies of necessary patient identification and insurance cards; scan documents timely; answer questions and explain policies clearly; assist patients and/or family with appointment scheduling as warranted. Process patient charts according to paperwork flow and productivity standards; prepare paperwork for distribution to appropriate departments; align documents for establishing the patient\'s medical record and financial file. Greet patients and family members professionally; coordinate with clinical staff for emergency medical needs and answer questions; inform patients or their representatives of delinquent accounts and attempt to obtain payment. Check physician orders and attach them to the patient medical records to ensure appropriate tests; guide patients to destinations or refer to a Guest Services Representative as needed. Ensure timely bed assignment and coordination with unit managers for transfers to or from external facilities (behavioral health center-specific). Review insurance contract matrix to verify appropriate hospital placement in line with the patient\'s insurance plans (behavioral health center-specific); attend in-services and complete mandatory education as warranted. Experience

Generally 0 to 3 years of related experience. Education

High school diploma is required. A Bachelor's degree in a related field is strongly preferred. Skills

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines; effective oral and written communication; ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure; ability to understand and follow instructions; ability to exercise sound and independent judgment; proficiency with job-appropriate technology and software applications. Credentials

Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty. Unit/Working Conditions

Physical requirements: sedentary work; may require long periods of sitting, with the ability to stand or walk as needed; may lift or carry objects up to 20 pounds; close visual acuity for computer work and data analysis.
