We are seeking virtual Life Insurance Underwriters to join MassMutual. You will be responsible for delivering best-in-class customer service to our customers, internal and external, while assessing their eligibility for coverage. The Opportunity

We are looking for a virtual Life Underwriter to underwrite life insurance in a fast-paced, diverse, and inclusive environment that values varied experiences, backgrounds, and knowledge. Role and Responsibilities

Evaluate and handle all underwriting aspects of in-force life insurance applications as well as pre-sale risk questions Decide to accept, modify, or decline a risk by evaluating medical history, physical condition, occupational hazards, and financial background Deliver the best offer first to drive the sale and not only a decision Communicate underwriting decisions clearly with customers and facilitate placement of business Understand underwriting policies, guidelines, practices, and procedures Influence and champion changes to improve processes while maintaining mortality expectations Tailor communication to fit audiences (agency, new business personnel) and foster relationships with advisors and third-party partners Collaborate with stakeholders to gather information necessary for decision making and to select profitable risks Provide consultations with third-party firms to resolve rate questions and discrepancies; consider total case financials and customer value Develop relationships with key business partners across the competitive landscape to inform decisions and communicate underwriting decisions Independently handle assigned requests with minimal direction Adapt to ambiguity and change Build trust and rapport with colleagues, business partners, agencies, and third-party customers Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED 1+ years of life insurance underwriting experience (medical, non-medical, financial) Minimum established life insurance underwriting authority limit of $1 million Ideal Qualifications

3–5 years underwriting experience with a minimum established life insurance approval limit of $3 million Term and permanent life insurance underwriting Experience with third-party distribution, banks, or wire house underwriting Reinsurance experience In-force underwriting experience Industry exams towards FLMI, FALU, CLU, ChFC Self-motivated, team-oriented, with minimal supervision Critical thinking and data-driven problem solving Positive, inclusive, agile, and collaborative mindset Strong verbal and written communication What to Expect as Part of MassMutual and the Team
