The Indiana University School of Medicine Bloomington Emergency Medicine Residency is seeking a dynamic and dedicated
Associate Program Director (APD)
to join our collaborative leadership team. This position represents a unique opportunity to shape a new residency program that will matriculate its first intern class in July 2026. The program is the second emergency medicine residency in Indiana, sponsored by IUSM and based at the IU Health Bloomington Regional Academic Health Center. The APD will serve as a key leader in resident education, faculty development, innovation, and quality improvement initiatives, supporting the mission and vision of the residency, Department, School, and health system.
The position is a dually-employed full clinical (non-tenure track) faculty role within the Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine and the IU Health Medical Group South (IUHMG-S). It will be supported at a 40% FTE level for administrative work and includes a 60% clinical commitment in the South Region Emergency Departments (IU Health Bloomington, IU Health Bedford, IU Health Paoli, and IU Health Morgan).
Responsibilities
Provide leadership in resident education, faculty development, innovation, and quality improvement initiatives.
Support the mission and vision of the residency, the Department, the School, and the health system.
Engage in program operations and educational scholarship; participate in ongoing program development with the potential to assume Program Director responsibilities in the future.
Model professionalism, clinical excellence, and integrity; foster a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
Collaborate with regional sites to ensure high-quality resident training across multiple hospitals and outpatient sites.
Qualifications
DO or MD degree with ABEM or ABOEM Certification in Emergency Medicine.
Minimum of two years as core faculty in an ACGME-accredited residency program and/or educational leadership experience.
Eligible for or currently holds an Indiana medical license.
Evidence of ongoing or prior scholarly activity.
