Position Description: Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Senior Operations Manager has direct responsibility and leadership for overall daily production operations. This role collaborates with the Site Leader to set vision, implement 80/20 and Lean Simplification to ensure a safe work environment, maximize profitable growth through 80/20, drive quality improvements, provide differentiated customer service, develop a technically qualified workforce, and optimize operating costs, inventories and lead times through continuous improvement. This role oversees day-to-day activities to meet daily, monthly, quarterly and annual operating plan goals, develops long- and short-range plans aligned with strategies using 80/20 and lean principles, and ensures manufacturing resources are managed to meet customer needs in a cost-effective manner. Key Responsibilities
Leadership:
Promote, utilize and drive the Daily Management System (Tier meetings, LPA's, Gemba walks, loss tracking, hour-by-hour tracking) to ensure an efficient and effective operating system. Provide development and guidance to hourly and salaried workforce through coaching, partnering and relationship building. Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of Production Supervisors and skilled labor. Mentor other Operations Managers, set goals, and make decisions impacting multiple areas of the business. Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
Health & Safety Compliance:
Promote effective Health, Safety and Environmental programs, establishing high site safety standards for all associates. Drive process standardization with respect to EHS by monitoring injuries, near misses and property damage, with investigative activities and partnership with the onsite EHS Manager through the Daily Management System. Enforce safety protocols and ensure OSHA and company safety standards compliance.
Production Management:
Execute production plans to meet the required schedule at a satisfactory cost, including cost center, budget, manpower plans, systems developments, and asset management. Plan personnel to balance customer needs and cost goals; may oversee multiple teams or departments as the plant grows. Play a strategic role in optimizing operations, improving efficiency, and driving business outcomes. Provide ongoing analysis of manufacturing area operating results and take corrective actions to meet or exceed planned performance levels of quality, expense, efficiency and inventory control. Collaborate with engineering and design teams to align production capabilities with product specifications. Support the development and implementation of the capital plan to provide adequate capacity, aggressive quality improvement, and strong cost and asset control.
Process Improvement:
Design and implement plant production systems, policies and procedures, and methods to meet short/long-term objectives. Develop improved methods, layouts, equipment, techniques and processes to maintain and improve manufacturing competitiveness. Drive strategic improvements impacting profitability and efficiency. Identify and implement lean manufacturing techniques to optimize production workflows.
Inventory and Supply Chain Management:
Use visual management techniques to maintain inventory levels of materials and components to avoid production delays. Drive consistent output with robust inventory management and process adherence to maintain daily inventory accuracy and consumption.
Required Education & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred. 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably HVAC or industrial equipment production. Proven leadership experience managing fabrication or production teams. Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies. Excellent communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Proficient in manufacturing software and ERP systems. Lean Six Sigma Certification (Green or Black Belt).
