The Tech@Lilly Enterprise Automation team is seeking to add an architect/tech lead role to the team. Working with the Service Delivery Lead, this role is responsible for improving system reliability and resiliency to make it faster and easier to develop, configure, deploy, and support software capabilities. You will focus on building automation and implementing AI to reduce manual effort and prevent operations incidents. What You’ll Be Doing
In this position, you will impact the way automation is delivered across the company. You will help maintain and support our critical robotic process automation (RPA) portfolio, reduce our support footprint through automation and observability, create reusable application components with an intent toward self-service, and engage in other software development and system engineering related activities.
How You’ll Succeed As a Platform Leader with expertise in RPA , you will collaborate within Global Business Services to promote reliability engineering across the software lifecycle to detect and correct performance issues, and optimize or reduce RPA use where possible.
With an approach that accepts failure and the ability to work in ambiguity , you will use object-oriented development skills to identify, assess, and reduce the support footprint by recommending and implementing automation and observability practices.
By proactively influencing development to enable long-term growth , you will lead the organization in new development to optimize end-to-end application lifecycle support. You will monitor service level objectives (SLOs) to support system operations and ROI through dashboard development and KPI tracking.
As a leader in the organization , you will define and champion reliability engineering practices among engineering and product teams, participate in communities of practice, and mentor others through collaboration.
Using your problem-solving skills , you will create AiOps, workflows, and utility scripts as published as IaC (Infrastructure as Code) to reduce hands-on support needs long-term.
As a superb communicator with strong interpersonal skills , you will collaborate with a team including remote members to define, design and deliver new features, ensuring execution and implementation support the enterprise roadmap.
What You Should Bring Incident Management & Response for RPA bots (60-70% of role): Monitor system health, troubleshoot issues, and respond to incidents to minimize downtime in support of our RPA portfolio.
Automation & Infrastructure as Code and System Reliability & Performance (30-40% of role): Develop scripts and automation tools for deployment, monitoring, and infrastructure management to maintain high availability and performance of production systems.
Strong problem solving and analytical skills; highly adaptable to changing circumstances.
Experience in reliability engineering and monitoring practices, environments, and tools (e.g., cloud ecosystem preferably AWS, monitoring/observability, configuration management).
Experience with programming and scripting languages (e.g., Java, JavaScript, Python) within the context of automation tools.
Experience with ITIL v4 processes, framework, and tools (e.g., ServiceNow).
Experience with testing frameworks and methodologies (unit, integration, and end-to-end) and with debugging and performance optimization tools.
Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to improve code quality and maintainability.
Troubleshoot and resolve broad issues, optimize performance, and continuously improve user experience. Ability to perform root cause analysis (e.g., 5 Whys, fishbone diagrams) to identify underlying causes.
Experience with containers and databases (SQL/NoSQL).
Experience with monitoring/logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog).
Basic Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related technical field, or high school diploma/GED with 5+ years of experience in technology delivery and/or full-stack software development with a support focus.
5+ years experience in Full Stack Software Engineering including:
Proficient in design, support, and troubleshooting of API and RESTful services/integrations.
Expertise in Automation Anywhere or UIPath (RPA) with ability to support long-term RPA portfolio initiatives.
Experience with CI/CD, Cloud and GitHub technologies.
Experience with configuration management (Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
Demonstrated continuous improvement experience with automation or applying technology to improve performance.
Availability to work flexible hours; this team supports two shifts and may require non-standard hours, weekends, and holidays. Adjustments in benefits may be provided where applicable.

Actual compensation will depend on education, experience, skills, and location. The anticipated wage for this position is $123,000 - $180,400.
