What You'll Be Doing As the Associate Development Editor for the Nursing Education and Nursing Practice portfolios, you will join an award-winning team passionate about creating quality content and delivering that content in innovative solutions. You will be responsible for developing content and assets for books and digital products spanning undergraduate nursing education to nursing practice. You will serve as the owner of your assigned products during the development cycle to ensure we deliver current evidence-based content on time, on spec, on scope, and on budget. Collaboration is essential, with internal partners (Editorial Operations, Acquisition Editors, Product Managers, Marketing, Sales) and external partners (vendors, authors, subject matter experts) to produce content that delights customers.

Key Tasks:

Manage the product development cycle in collaboration with the Editorial Operations team or Product Manager for all assigned projects, including textbooks, digital assets, videos, and ancillaries

Collaborate with the Acquisition Editor and Marketing Manager in product planning and evaluation; formulate market surveys and outcomes for focus groups to gather customer insight; assess how products align with the portfolio and identify opportunities for collaboration

Work with subject matter experts, authors, vendors, and in-house staff to develop core content suitable for multiple platforms and appropriate for customers

Communicate with customers through surveys, focus groups, or other planned activities to understand needs, learning environment, and market trends

Provide written analysis of customer feedback and competitive products to:

Assist Acquisition Editors in understanding market segments, competitive landscape, trends, and demographics

Inform and articulate Acquisition Editors’ vision and plan for product development

Help define deliverables and scope of the product(s) including related resources in light of market feedback and competition

Analyze proposals and sample content to determine market viability and assess ability of SMEs and authors to create/revise content per the project plan

Create a comprehensive project budget and coordinate with the Editorial Operations team to develop a schedule

Manage content and media development (video, audio, etc.) via vendors/SMEs/freelancers; ensure deliverables meet specs, schedule, and budget

Demonstrate development editing capabilities by analyzing authors’/SMEs’ presentation and writing style; provide direction

Coordinate with Editorial Assistants to commission reviews and evaluate customer feedback to ensure market needs are met and product is positioned for success

Alert Acquisition Editors and Marketing to new opportunities discovered through customer interactions; refine project scope as needed

Track project status, schedule, and budget in consultation with the Editorial Coordinator; assist with management reports

Problem-solve quality/content or scope issues; collaborate with the Editorial Operations team to resolve schedule, budget, and vendor/SME issues

Assist Marketing with sales inquiries when appropriate

Manage customer escalations from Online Product (Technical) Support

Qualifications

Have a BA/BS degree

Experience in academic and/or healthcare publishing

Experience building and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external customers, with flexibility, diplomacy, and a cooperative/team attitude

Strong detail orientation with broad conceptual understanding

General knowledge of the company and strong interpersonal skills, including professional interactions

At least 1-2 years of editorial publishing experience in developing print and/or digital products, preferably for higher education or healthcare markets

Excellent verbal and written communication, leadership, prioritization, and time management skills; strong editing knowledge

Familiarity with APA 7th edition and bias-free language with focus on diversity and inclusion

Experience analyzing proposal reviews and creating review analyses to support product development

Ability to develop market knowledge and awareness of larger strategic issues (competition and publishing strategies)

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Project management skills including time/resource utilization, budgeting, and multi-project coordination

Ability to travel approximately 5 - 10% to the Philadelphia office
