Overview
The City of Torrance is recruiting for a Housing Supervisor to be part of the Community Development Team. The Housing Supervisor is a position in the Neighborhood Services Division that will perform a variety of advanced level professional duties involved in the administration of more complex housing projects. The Housing Supervisor is responsible for organizing, planning and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Housing programs, including but not limited to the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) Program, VA Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program, and other special housing programs. The Department and Organization: The Community Development Department (CDD) plays a vital role in the continued development, sustainable growth, and success of Torrance. CDD oversees Building and Safety, Engineering, Environmental (Code Enforcement), GIS and Mapping, Housing, Planning, permitting, environmental stewardship, NPDES, and building and code enforcement to serve the community. Responsibilities
Organize, plan and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Housing programs and related activities. Administer complex housing programs such as Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher, Emergency Housing Voucher, HUD-VASH, and other special housing programs. Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge and skills required is qualifying. A typical progression would include: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and three years of increasingly responsible experience in a housing assistance program, with at least one year in a supervisory or lead capacity. An Associate Degree or sixty (60) or more college units from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public administration, business administration, social services, or a closely related field is desirable. Strong supervision skills to effectively interact with staff and the public. Experience in housing services administration processes and procedures. Ability to interpret and explain codes, regulations, and laws. Highly effective customer service skills. Strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of initiative. Demonstrated resourcefulness and reliability. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects, working independently, and shifting priorities as needed. How to Apply and Additional Information
