Overview
Correctional Lieutenant at CA Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation (CDCR) in Kern County. In this permanent, full-time in-office role, you will work within a State correctional facility or camp to supervise custodial operations and inmate welfare, or perform specialized staff functions requiring custodial expertise.
Responsibilities As a line supervisor, you may: assign duties to subordinate Correctional Sergeants, provide on-the-job training, maintain discipline, conduct inspections, supervise custody and movement of inmates, ensure sanitary conditions, prepare procedures and post orders, supervise visits and admissions/releases, conduct counts, report infractions, and participate in classification and disciplinary processes. You may lead camp operations including budgeting, supply management, maintenance, inmate programming, and cooperation with law enforcement. Other duties include keeping records, dictating correspondence, and preparing reports. Some assignments may involve acting for the custodial manager or participating in group treatment programs for inmates.

Minimum Requirements / Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Either I: Two years of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Correctional Sergeant.
Or II: Two years of experience in the California state service in custody, classification, or treatment work performing duties at a level of responsibility equivalent to that of a Correctional Sergeant.
Felony Disqualification & Drug Testing
Existing law disqualifies felons from employment as peace officers. Applicants must pass a drug screening test (waived for certain already-designated Sensitive classifications).
