Overview

Research Scientist, Discovery Toxicology — Princeton, NJ. The Discovery Toxicology organization in Lawrenceville, NJ is seeking an experienced scientist to generate and interpret data from in vitro and in vivo studies supporting nonclinical safety assessment. The successful candidate will engage in investigative studies that support early toxicity and teratogenicity assessment using in vitro models and New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), such as zebrafish, microphysiological systems (MPS) and organoids. The role includes supporting in vivo studies with mechanistic investigations and pharmacodynamic assessments for programs in various therapeutic areas. State-of-the-art cell culture and molecular biology are required; experience with flow cytometry and developmental model systems is highly desirable. Educational and research background in toxicology, cell biology, developmental biology, or a related field is required. Key Responsibilities

Evaluate toxicity and teratogenic liability assessments for early Discovery candidates, including literature-based assessments, design and execution of investigative studies, and reporting of these assessments. Apply molecular biology and flow cytometry expertise to develop and optimize assays for evaluating toxicity endpoints and biomarkers (bio- / pharmacodynamic) associated with investigative safety assessments and issue resolution. Apply approaches for functional assessment of drug targets or suspect off-targets using siRNA, antisense oligonucleotides, and/or CRISPR. Conduct investigative mechanistic studies using in vitro cellular and developmental model systems to characterize on- or off-target liabilities to support discovery programs. Perform multifaceted data analysis using software for flow cytometry and gene or protein expression data. Study, execute, and report in vitro or in vivo studies evaluating toxicity or teratogenicity. Author internal reports and manuscripts related to exploratory/investigative activities; present research internally and at external conferences. Maintain excellent documentation of laboratory procedures and data in compliance with corporate notebook policies and procedures. Contribute to a collaborative, productive laboratory environment that fosters scientific excellence and open communication. Qualifications

Minimum Education Required:

High School/GED Hands-on experience with analytical techniques such as Flow Cytometry, ELISA and PCR. Hands-on experience in cell culture, including maintaining cell lines and primary cell isolation and culture. Ability to create, follow, interpret and apply SOPs for various in vitro assays. Strong scientific writing and presentation skills including statistical and data analysis and graphing. Ability to work independently in a high-paced team environment, meet deadlines, and prioritize multiple projects. Experience in regulated environments and with clinical/diagnostic testing procedures is a plus. Technical skills include blood processing, tissue processing, protein analyses (ELISA, Luminex); strong expertise in flow cytometry, panel design/validation, and data analysis with FlowJo or FCS Express. Preferred Qualifications

At least 3 years of pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology experience or equivalent. Experience with advanced microscopy imaging systems and software (confocal or image analysis). Experience with target deconvolution technologies (siRNA, CRISPR) including delivery approaches. Experience with developmental model systems and embryo preparation for in vitro culture, plus morphological assessment of embryos for malformations. Compensation & Location
