The work of our Regional Environmental Engineers is critical to enabling AWS's growth in the US and around the world. AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. You will partner with AWS stakeholders to develop regional and site-specific development strategies enabling the construction and operation of AWS datacenters and infrastructure. You will lead environmental due diligence for site selection and acquisition, develop and execute regional and site-specific environmental permitting strategies, support environmental compliance during design and construction, and prepare for data center operations. A successful candidate in this role will have a proven track record of delivering multiple, high-priority projects with tight timelines that require strong communication with partner teams, outside consultants and counsel, and regulatory agencies. Key Responsibilities
Assess environmental risks and requirements and develop mitigations and strategies to support data center siting and development strategies and site-specific project delivery. Lead technical aspects of environmental due diligence, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, regulatory and permitting evaluations, natural, biological and cultural resource evaluations, and noise assessments. Deliver environmental permits, approvals, and plans to enable on-time and compliant construction and operations for new data center locations and expansion of existing sites. Communicate environmental requirements, risks, and activities to internal and external project partners. Coordinate with partner teams including Real Estate, Design, Water, Legal, Risk, Power, and others to optimize site designs to consider natural resource or operational constraints. Develop site development and permitting strategies that are environmentally responsible and sustainable while meeting project timelines. Lead regulatory agency interactions and negotiations in support of environmental permit acquisition and regional development strategies. Develop, manage and track metrics to evaluate project success About The Team
The AWS Environmental team is an expanding and dynamic team that is critical to enabling AWS’s growth around the world, as well as ensuring compliance of AWS’s global operations. Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or related discipline. 7+ years of experience delivering multi-media environmental due diligence, permitting, and compliance for existing sites and new development. 7+ years experience conducting environmental due diligence for greenfield and brownfield sites. At least 3 years of project or task management experience for environmental permitting and/or due diligence projects. Preferred Qualifications
Data center or critical infrastructure due diligence, design, construction, and/or or risk assessment experience strongly preferred. Experience in multiple states within the US (preferably in NC, GA, LA, MS, TX, TN, OK). Experience managing and/or supporting community/public interactions. Experience working with large teams on a diverse slate of projects. Experience with Smartsheet or other project management software. Up to 25% travel.
