The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team focused on advancing ex utero embryonic support systems. Duties/Responsibilities: ●Critically and efficiently analyze, understand, and apply scientific research to achieve team objectives ●Design, conduct, and analyze experiments using rigorous scientific methods ●Contribute to advancing our efforts related to ex utero embryonic development ●Advance in vitro gestation support by collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to design and develop tissue engineered scaffolds, biomaterials, hydrogels, and extracellular matrices that enhance embryo implantation, placental development and embryonic gestation processes ●Conduct analysis, characterization, testing and validation of tissue engineered scaffolds, biomaterials, hydrogels, and extracellular matrices ●Efficiently generate, refine and optimize scaffold, hydrogel, and matrix chemistry to select appropriate mechanical properties, chemical degradation rates, and incorporate adhesive ligands, chemotactic factors, or other bioactive substances. ●Collaborate with other team members to integrate scaffolds, hydrogels, and matrices into embryonic support systems.Then, characterize the performance of the scaffolds, hydrogels, and matrices during and after use to evaluate performance. ●Effectively communicate completed work at various levels through presentations, in-person discussions, and written documentation Preferred Skills/Abilities: ●Strong ability to rigorously apply the scientific method to solve engineering and scientific problems ●Ability to work independently, navigate uncertainty, and tackle complex problems with confidence ●Exceptional organization, communication and presentation abilities ●Apply statistical analyses to ensure the relevance, accuracy, and effective interpretation of data ●Advanced proficiency in both laboratory and engineering environments, including tools and instruments ●High level of intellectual and technical capacity to drive creative research ●Strong ability to collaborate effectively within a team, including both teaching and learning from colleagues ●Demonstrates a strong sense of ownership and a team-first mentality ●Some technical areas of experience that will be helpful, not all are required: ○Principles of chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, tissue engineering, or biochemistry ○Chemical modification of tissue engineered scaffolds, hydrogels, and extracellular matrices ○Mechanical and chemical characterization techniques ○Molecular biology techniques ○Histology and Immunohistochemistry ○Imaging – brightfield, confocal, and scanning electron microscopy ○Embryo development and gestational biology Education and Experience: ●Bachelor's Degree from an ABET-accredited program in engineering-related fields such as biomedical, chemical, biomaterials, etc. chemistry-related fields such as biochemistry, chemistry, etc. ●6+ years of industry or highly applied experience developing biomedical devices or embryo culture systems (MS may substitute for 2 years of experience, PhD may substitute for 4 years of experience) ●Minimum of 8 years of highly applied experience in Duties and Requirements. ●Proven track record of translating biological requirements into device or device-system design Physical Requirements: ●Sit and/or stand for long periods performing technical experiments and/or office-related tasks ●Move about the office & laboratory to access various instrumentation & meeting rooms ●Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds ●Operate computers and laboratory instrumentation ●Observe and detect details up close ●Handle and work around potentially hazardous chemicals ●Ability to travel up to10% of the time The team at Colossal is committed, colorful, passionate, intelligent, collaborative, creative, experienced, scientific, and world-class.
