A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Xiaojun Yu in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology. The successful candidate will plan and conduct assigned and original research projects independently, while collaborating with faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows, and students. This position centers on the development of scaffolds for nerve regeneration, an emerging area of biomedical engineering research. The work will involve designing and fabricating composite scaffolds using electrospinning and 3D printing for application in animal models of nerve injury. The research will also encompass scaffold characterization, in vitro cell culture studies, and in vivo analyses to evaluate biomaterial–nerve tissue interactions. Key Responsibilities: Develop and optimize fabrication techniques for composite scaffolds using electrospinning and 3D printing. Perform physical, chemical, and biological characterization of scaffolds. Establish in vitro cell culture models to assess cellular responses to biomaterials. Learn and perform surgical, histological, and imaging procedures for evaluating scaffold–nerve tissue interactions in animal models. Collaborate with colleagues at Stevens Institute of Technology on related and interdisciplinary research projects. Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present research findings at national and international conferences. Qualifications: Education: Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related scientific, technical, or engineering discipline. Experience: Background in biomaterial development, characterization, and cell culture. Exposure to animal models of nerve injury is preferred. Skills: Strong experimental design and analytical skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse research teams. Application Instructions: Applicants should submit the following materials: Cover letter describing research experience, interests, and long-term career goals. Curriculum vitae (CV). Names and email addresses of three professional references. Department: Biodegradable Matrices for Bone Healing Compensation Range: In compliance with the New Jersey Wage Transparency Act, the semi-monthly base range for this position is $48,000 - $50,400.
