The role serves as an assistant/relief shift supervisor in an adult correctional facility, Transition Center, or assistant to the Chief of Custody at the Cremer Therapeutic Community Center. Responsibilities include supervising and instructing lower-level Correctional Officers, developing expectations and monitoring performance, and providing assistance with problems as they arise. Key responsibilities include directing a major activity, patrolling living quarters/grounds/buildings, performing shift/post assignments, inspecting staff, and supervising periodic counts of offenders. The role also involves discussing minor adjustment problems with offenders, referring serious problems to proper staff, promoting rehabilitation, and investigating offender disturbances and complaints. Minimum qualifications include three or more years of experience in the custody of adult criminal offenders, with one year as a Correctional Sergeant or Senior Probation and Parole Assistant, and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency. Military service may be substituted for up to one year of the custody experience. Benefits may include a $2.00 per hour shift differential, $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend, and $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend. The Department of Corrections offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years.
