Serves as: assistant/relief shift supervisor in an adult correctional facility with the Division of Adult Institutions, assistant/relief shift supervisor in a Transition Center with the Division of Probation and Parole, or assistant to the Chief of Custody at the Cremer Therapeutic Community Center with the Division of Offender Rehabilitative Services. Supervises and instructs lower-level Correctional Officers, develops expectations and monitors performance and work habits, and provides assistance with problems as they arise. Directs a major activity such as control center operation or reception/orientation process. Patrols living quarters/grounds/buildings to observe offender behaviors and the effectiveness of Correctional Officers, performs shift/post assignments, inspects staff arriving for duty, and directs/performs regular rounds of assigned posts to ensure that Correctional Officers are on duty and attentive to their duties. Discusses minor adjustment problems with offenders, refers serious problems to proper correctional facility staff, and promotes rehabilitation by attempting to modify offender’s social attitudes, discouraging undesirable behaviors, and encouraging worthwhile activities. Investigates offender disturbances and complaints, directs the maintenance of discipline among offenders, and assists in conducting training sessions for staff. A physical examination by a physician may be required before or at the time of appointment to determine if the applicant meets the physical standards for employment established by the Missouri Department of Corrections. By assignment, a position may require possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license. Minimum Qualifications

Three or more years of experience in the custody of adult criminal offenders in a city, county, state, or federal facility, of which one year must have been as a Correctional Sergeant or Senior Probation and Parole Assistant with the Missouri Department of Corrections, and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency. Military service may be substituted for up to one year of the custody experience - two years of the listed custody experience, that includes one year as a Correctional Sergeant or Senior Probation and Parole Assistant with the Missouri Department of Corrections is required. All requested documents MUST be received by the closing date listed. Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive a $2.00 per hour shift differential or a $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend. The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years.
