What you’ll be doing

Verizon has a challenging opportunity for a Senior Engineer Architect with the ability to perform architecture design and implementation engineering duties. This role will be part of a team responsible for providing complete front-to-end engineering, implementation, and support of solutions involving, but not limited to, WAN, LAN, Voice, Security, and Virtual technologies.

Responsibilities

The candidate will have full technical understanding and hands-on experience working with Enterprise multi-vendor networks.

Proficient with Enterprise Network technologies to engineer and configure end-to-end, cost-effective solutions.

Understanding of network virtualization technologies is desirable.

Understanding of Layer-2 transport equipment.

Understanding and hands-on experience with load balancers.

The candidate should be able to transform complex problems into executable technology solutions.

The candidate will be responsible for documenting designs and ensuring communication of designs to various audiences.

The candidate will work with minimal supervision for projects involved.

Ability to multi-task and prioritize based on deliverable due dates.

Ability to work in a multi-team environment.

Understanding of Network Security Framework and experience with Nessus Security Center.

Configure and troubleshoot a wide range of multi-vendor network equipment:

Routing & Switching:

Cisco and Juniper routers; Ciena aggregation switches

Security:

Palo Alto, Cisco, and Juniper firewalls

Application Delivery:

F5 Load Balancers

Network Visibility:

Gigamon appliances

Provide technical support to project planning teams for design, development, and implementation of proposals.

Deliver Tier III technical support to Tier II for the above vendor equipment as well as others.

Design, write, and execute test plans on commercial and in-house developed network elements using state-of-the-art test tools and hardware.

Write whitepapers, deliver presentations and demonstrations of solutions/processes in response to customer requirements/interest in new technologies/products to support customer networks.

Work with internal system administrators (Windows and Linux) to prepare systems for operational use and assist with troubleshooting system issues.

Job may require after-hours support outside of normal business hours.

Where you’ll be working In this worksite-based role, you’ll work onsite at a defined location: Ashburn, VA.

What we’re looking for You’ll need to have:

Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.

Four or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through work experience and/or military experience.

Must be able to pass an extensive background investigation as a condition of employment.

Willingness to travel, if required.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with focus on Software, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or Network Technology.

Four or more years of network engineering experience.

Three or more years of systems integration and test experience.

Familiarity with vendor equipment: Cisco and Juniper routers, Gigamon appliances, Palo Alto, Juniper and Cisco firewalls, F5 or other load balancers, Arista Ethernet switches, and Ciena Aggregation switches.

In-depth working knowledge of TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, VPN, and IP routing protocols like OSPF, BGP, MPLS, L3VPN, IPsec, MACsec.

Ability to use scripting languages to create automated scripts for network configuration (e.g., Python, shell, bash, Ansible Playbooks).

Ability to use test automation software.

Experience with Linux operating systems.

Knowledge of code versioning tools, such as Git.

Ability to decipher highly technical data.

Ability to participate in problem-solving and in the defect resolution process.

Ability to work individually and in teams.

Ability to meet tight deadlines.

Ability to multi-task in an ever-changing work environment.
