Information Technology Services at MCCCD is seeking an elite Cybersecurity Engineer to elevate Maricopa’s security posture and protect mission-critical systems. Reporting to the Director of Security Operations, you’ll be the technical powerhouse driving security innovation across enterprise, cloud, and hybrid environments. In this role, you’ll leverage cutting-edge tools—EDR platforms, next-generation firewalls, and SIEM/SOAR solutions—to lead proactive threat hunting, rapid incident response, and deep forensic investigations. Your expertise in vulnerability management, disaster recovery, and business continuity will be pivotal in building resilient, future-proof architectures in AWS, Azure, and GCP. This is more than a security role—it’s a chance to lead engineering initiatives, influence enterprise security strategy, and work on complex, high-impact challenges that protect critical assets and ensure seamless operations. Where will my time be spent?

20% – Security Technology Management

Designs, configures, deploys, and maintains enterprise security technologies, including next-generation firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection platforms (EDR/XDR), SIEM/SOAR solutions, and vulnerability management tools; ensures continuous optimization and tuning to maximize detection and prevention capabilities.

20% – Infrastructure Security Collaboration

Partners with network, systems, and cloud teams to implement secure configurations and hardening across on-premises and cloud infrastructure; enforces security best practices and compliance standards.

15% – Cybersecurity Leadership & Project Execution

Leads, plans, and executes enterprise-wide cybersecurity projects focused on protecting critical assets, reducing risk, and ensuring regulatory compliance; viewed as a subject matter expert and serves as a trusted technical advisor to the Director and executive leadership on complex matters.

15% – Vulnerability Management & Remediation

Conducts, reviews, and analyzes vulnerability scans across institutional systems; tracks remediation progress, prioritizes risks, and coordinates mitigation with IT staff and application owners. Identifies and triages potential and valid threats by monitoring SIEM dashboards and responding to security alerts; conducts initial investigations, escalates incidents appropriately, and participates in forensic and response activities; provides written record of findings with remediation recommendations; leads or participates in executing mitigation strategies.

10% – Security Architecture & Vendor Coordination

Manages cross-functional teams, assesses vendor security postures, and implements enterprise security controls aligned with industry frameworks and best practices.

5% – Administrative Responsibilities

Participates in districtwide committees and internal meetings; performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience with cloud security frameworks, such as cloud secure access service edge (SASE) Experience with vulnerability management and endpoint security Experience in threat detection, risk management, and mitigation strategies Experience scripting in Python, PowerShell, or Bash to automate security tasks and support incident response Experience with security configuration and hardening Windows and Linux operating systems Relevant industry certifications such as OSCP, CISSP, CompTIA Security+, or equivalent cloud security certifications (e.g., AWS Security Specialty, Azure Security Engineer, or Google Professional Cloud Security Engineer) Minimum requirements Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in information technology, information security, computer science, cybersecurity, network security, or a related field and five (5) years of technical experience in the support of networks, systems and technology security. OR Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in information technology or directly related field and two (2) years of technical experience planning and overseeing information technology initiatives such as data security, systems development or network design and related technologies such as intrusion detection systems, vulnerability scanning systems, authentication systems, operating systems and security tools. OR An equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or certifications sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job; substitutions with certifications may be considered.
