The IT Payment Technical Lead is a senior role that will define and drive new payment innovations and align payment and finance strategies with business goals and customer experience expectations. We are looking for a seasoned professional who has architected and implemented payment technologies in large retail businesses, with a solid knowledge of the end-to-end payment and finance flows. This position collaborates with cross-functional business and IT teams, ensures compliance with industry standards, and drives advancements in payment technologies and solutions.
Responsibilities
Seasoned thought leader in payment technologies who will drive the end-to-end architecture and design for payment and finance flows. Work with senior executives and cross-functional teams to understand the payment and finance roadmap to define system requirements and specifications. Evaluate, select, and implement payment technologies that align with enterprise architecture and business goals. Plan and design the overall structure of a broad technology solution that supports the company strategy. As needed, evaluate and select appropriate technologies (software or hardware) and integration methods. Define solution architecture aligned to business needs in collaboration with business and IT teams. Ensure new product functionality is built with effective, scalable technologies. Provide thought leadership by staying well-informed on applicable technology and industry trends, reference architectures, and standards. Advises management regarding vision and strategy, technology innovations, and enterprise architecture services. Coaches and mentors enterprise and solution architects. Other payments-related responsibilities as needed to fulfil the business needs for Discount Tire. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
This position requires proven experience as a senior architect with a minimum of ten years of experience in the retail payment space. A key requirement is that the candidate should have experience designing and implementing payment solutions at large retailer(s) with high transaction volumes. Experience in SAP finance is highly desirable (FI/CO, Treasury, Accounts Receivable/Payable, integrations with payments systems, etc.) Strong background with POS systems, payment gateways, acquirer/processor integrations, and omni-channel retail operations. Hands-on experience with payment protocols (ISO 8583, EMV, NFC, tokenization, 3D Secure). Strong knowledge of retail systems integration (ERP, OMS, CRM, e-commerce platforms). Demonstrated experience working with large-scale retail environments (multi-store, high transaction volumes). Chargeback and dispute management expertise, including integration of chargeback handling workflows between PSPs, acquirers, and finance systems. Proficiency in API design, microservices, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Experience with message queuing, real-time processing, and distributed systems. Familiarity with security best practices for payments (PCI DSS, P2PE, encryption). Strong background in reconciliation and settlement processes, ensuring accurate alignment between PSPs, banks, and SAP Finance. Experience with service-oriented architecture (SOA, REST). Strong communication skills to communicate with customers, support personnel, and management. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to balance hands-on technical work with strategic oversight. Proven leadership in cross-functional, multi-vendor environments. Familiarity with business architecture principles. Able to develop multiple, alternative technical architectures to support a business or technical goal and then communicate the key tradeoffs and implications (supportability, cost estimate, etc.). Experience with digital wallets (ApplePay, GooglePay) and alternative payment methods (e.g., PayPal, Affirm). Expertise in payment processors like WorldPay and Payment Tech or equivalent experience. Knowledge of WorldPay 610 RAFT and Native RAFT specifications preferred. Experience with Synchrony private label card processing preferred. Understanding of card fraud management for eCommerce. Exposure to Text 2 Pay solutions.
Educational Requirements
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience.
Work Days
Normal workdays are Monday through Friday, with a minimum of 4 days onsite at the Discount Tire HQ in Arizona. Occasional Saturdays and Sundays may be necessary.
Work Hours
Normal work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m Arizona time. Additional hours may be necessary.
