The
Director, Business Controller
is an impactful leader responsible for managing the Accounting and Finance operations in alignment with the company's business plan. This role serves as a key financial partner to plant managers, supporting both top and bottom-line growth. It is a hands-on operational accounting position that requires expertise in product cost accounting and inventory management within a job shop manufacturing environment. You will be comfortable on the plant floor investigating production variances and creating detailed financial analyses, including balance sheet reconciliations. The role oversees the closure of financial systems, preparation of financial statements, monthly forecasts, working capital improvements, and detailed product and customer financial analysis, providing recommendations for operational improvements. The position reports to the Division Vice President, Business Manager. Key Responsibilities:
Accountable for product costing and profitability analyses by customer and product. Responsible for inventory valuation, physical count accuracy, and provisions for excess and obsolete inventory. Manage weekly and monthly orders, sales, profit, and working capital forecasts. Complete the annual operating budget. Provide financial leadership to improve working capital management. Perform monthly account reconciliations of all balance sheet and P&L accounts. Report on and improve key performance indicators (P&L, balance sheet, cash) and cash management activities. Prepare capital appropriation requests, monitor capital spending, and ensure policy adherence. Oversee compliance with internal and external audits. Implement finance and accounting changes to enhance productivity and reduce costs. Maintain a robust internal control environment and ensure SOX compliance. Evaluate and improve accounting policies and procedural controls, including SOX documentation and self-testing. Promote safe working practices to achieve an injury-free workplace. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required. Master's in Business Administration preferred. CPA or other relevant certifications are advantageous. 8-12 years of manufacturing or operational accounting experience. Knowledge of Microsoft Navision and/or Hyperion Financial Management is a plus. Experience with ERP system implementation is beneficial. Operational manufacturing experience is required, preferably in the metals industry. Experience as a plant controller or cost accountant is highly desirable. Willingness to travel internationally approximately four times per year.
